INTRODUCTION
A portfolio can be defined as the integration of evidences of work done by a students
during the tenure of their academic life. It provides an overview of the overall journey of a
student during college or university. The present report takes into account 12 different skills that
are essential for students in academic context and for career progression.
Definition of E-Portfolio
E-Portfolio can be referred to as the digital accumulation of academic works of a student.
It tends to display the skills, values, competency, capability and experience of individuals within
college. It exhibits personal as well as professional growth and development of personnel. It
serves as an example for evidence based practices. It is important to be maintained as it provides
students with the opportunity to access it any time to identify the projects, assessments and
exams they have undergone.

Research skills
It is one of the most prominently used skills during the life of a student. This refers to the
ability of a person to carry out in depth study of a subject matter with a view to gain effective
comprehensibility of it. During the tenure in college, I was once given a research project wherein
I applied my researching skills with the aim of collecting information upon the topic given to me
by the tutor. The application of this skill helped in timely gathering the information and
subsequently completing the assignment before the deadline.

Plagiarism
This can be defined as the process of presenting someone else's opinions, thoughts and
views and not giving them appropriate credits for the same. In this regard, it is analysed that in
text citation and referencing are the ways by which a student can get saved from getting indulged
in committing the academic crime or breach named plagiarism. Our college has maintained
academic integrity policy whereby any student found guilty of committing plagiarism has to
undergo severe consequences as it accounts academic misconduct.

Reflective thinking skills
This is a skill which is concerned with analysis and stipulation of judgements regarding
the instances that take place. It is a skill with the help of which students are able to look at a
situation from their point of view. Reflective thinking is regarded to be a crucial skill for learners
within college life. Through the application of this skill, I can effectively identify my strengths
and weaknesses so as to work upon the latter in a timely manner and undergo growth &
development.

Academic writing skills
This is an imperative skill for students which provides assistance to individuals in
completing the assignments and exams within the predefined course of time. This is a form of
writing which complies with the requirements of university in which the student is carrying out
degree course. There are a number of considerations that need to be taken into account while
doing academic writing. Some of these considerations are recognised to be point of view, tone,
structure, language, grammar and many more. By getting a command over academic writing
skills, I can easily complete all my assignment as per the guidelines provided by the management

Analysis approaches (SWOT and PESTEL)
Analytical approaches are put to use for the purpose of taking into account the current
situation of a business entity. In this regard, it was analysed by me during the college tenure that
there are mainly 2 types of analysis approaches which are applied by the organisations across the
globe. These are named PESTLE analysis and SWOT analysis. The former is applied by an
entity to examine the influence that the external factors of business environment has upon a

company. Further, SWOT analysis provides entity with the information such as the strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the enterprise. Both of these are effective approaches
which are applied to gain knowledge of the business environment and its overall impact over

Problem solving skills
This is a skill which provides assistance to individuals in gaining knowledge of the ways
with the application of which they can easily solve an issue. During my tenure at college, I was
once given the task to work in a group to collect and present CSR information about a
multinational corporation for a period of last 5 years. In this regard, the group faced several
problems such as time management, communication and so on. To deal with this in an effective
manner, problem solving skills gave a significant contribution. As a result of this, our group was
able to work in a collaborative manner and complete the assignment in given time frame.

Critical thinking skills
Critical thinking can be referred to as the ability of an individual to look upon a subject
from critical point of view. This means viewing the subject in positive as well as negative light
so as to reach at the conclusion whether the concept as a whole is affirmative or adverse. Critical

Communication skills
Communication is determined as the two way process through which individual interacts
share their views and perception with one another. It is acknowledged as the essential skill that is
required to be owned by every individual so that they can easily communicate to others and

execute their work. My own communication skill is highly effective as I am able to communicate
with others in adequate manner. My strong communication skills also supports me in developing
my relations with my batch mates and other associated people. This simply supports me in
completing the assigned work defectively with the support of others. As per teachers analysis, it
can be said that I am good at verbal communication but still I have to focus on developing or
grooming my written communication as well. This is so because, there are range assignment
whose submission criteria goes through written mode. By developing written communication in
the future I will be able to score good marks in coursework.

Interpersonal skills
During my tenure of graduation, I developed interpersonal skills. This includes my
behaviour and tactics that an individual uses for interacting with other people effectively. Within
the business world, employers requires that their employees have good interpersonal skills. The
interpersonal skill is helpful to me in interacting with others at job as well as outside. This skill
also include social intelligence. The learning sessions helped me to learn interpersonal skills. In

Benefits of data interpretation
Data interpretation can be referred to as the skill of analysing the information collected
with a view to derive relevant findings out of the same. Data interpretation skills prove to be
beneficial for me while dealing with graphical information. It even assisted me in effectively

lay down an effective foundation if it is done in an appropriate manner.

The portfolio prepared consist of all the skills that are important for academic life. The
skills that are discussed within the portfolio are selected looking upon their individual
significance in the academic tenure of a student. In this regard, all throughout the journey of my
learning, it was largely sensed by me that I underwent a mix of experiences which provided
assistance to me in effectively carrying out my academic life. These skills provided aid to me in
facilitating my personal as well as professional development. With this, it implies the inflated
scope of my career progression. It has been analysed by me that there are several types of skills
that have shaped my academic tenure and helped me in carrying out my assignment and class
tests in the best possible manner. Herein, data interpretation skill helped me in carrying out the
research assignments within due course of time by analysing the data collected by way of
questionnaire in the manner required as per the nature of the study. During my academic life, I
even learned 2 widely used business management models named SWOT and PESTLE analysis.
Herein, I evaluated that a firm can effectively analyse its external environmental with the in
depth study of PESTLE factors. Further, SWOT seeks to provide comprehensibility of the
internal aspects of a business. I have learnt various skills and abilities while attending the
sessions. The academic sessions of mine are very good. I was able to develop my both personal
as well as professional growth. These skills help me in building up bright future. It is important
for me to develop skills so that I can maintain my work effectively. Some of the skills that I learn
while attending sessions in the university are communication skills, presentation skills, team
development skills, group collaboration skills, etc. I have developed these skills so that I can do
effective work at workplace. I have analysed that communication skills and presentation skills

are important so that I can manage my work and project effectively. Communication skill
enabled me to set interaction with my tutor and ask for any query. Further, it also allowed me to
set effective coordination with my peers during group tasks and projects. Communication skill
helped me in expressing my thoughts and opinions in front of my group mates and arriving at a
productive conclusion to any debate. In my academic life, I was keenly interested in learning
various skills. In this competitive world, it is very important to have skills that will help in future.
These skills in past and at present provide help in scoring good marks in college. Further, they
also provide assistance to me in getting appreciation from my tutor for presenting in depth
presentations or projects as per his requirements. They even tend to enhance my existent level of
knowledge, capacity and competence.
CONCLUSION
As per the above analysis, it can be said that portfolio is important for an individual to be
maintained so as to gain evidence of the academic works undergone by them during the college
life. Further, it has been analysed that there are a number of skills which are considered
important for a student. Some of these skills are recognised as being communication,
presentation, critical thinking, reflective thinking, research and many more. These skills enable
an individual to undergo a career in any prospective field and thereby derive rapid success in due
course of time.
