INTRODUCTION
This portfolio includes illustration of a business process and followed by main decision in
the process and required input and output will be discussed for each input and output. Later,
digitalisation of selected business process will also be discussed in report. Followed by this
portfolio will include how information/data management can help running business processes
and database needed to be attached for the information system. Meaning of big data for the
organisational process will also be discussed. Opportunities for employing intelligent tools and
systems for business process and suggested intelligent tool will also be discussed. This
discussion will contextualise Pret a Manger, it is a international sandwich shop franchise chain
and is based in UK. Pret a Manger was founded in 1983 and is headquartered at London and
company is owned by JAB Holding Company.
MAIN BODY
Task 1
1.1 Business process
It refers to the process of the business that is being followed in every business or the
companies. Every company or sector has their own set of business process on which they operate
their business operation. In simple words, it refers to a roadmap or the guideline in which the
business is being performed (Gorchakov and Taratuhina, 2019). There is a great importance of
business process in every organization so that it can pursue its work in a definite direction and
move towards its objective in the form of meeting customer need but supplying them their
product and thereby raising sales and revenue percentages.
Business process of Pret a manger:
The most common and simple business process that is associated with PAM in case of
receiving order is as follows:
PAM is one of the famous restaurant or sandwich shop of UK. It manages its business by
following a very simple business process which includes certain steps:
Order food:
As per this step it receives order from its customers. this step is being started and initiated
with the customers where they make and place order of food to the restaurant.
Cashier:

It is the second step or the person who perform the business process. As per this step the
order is being taken by the cashier of the restaurant. On taking order the cashier will make bill
and charges accordingly.
Kitchen:
This step is being further carry forward to the kitchen. This means that after processing
billing and receipt the cashier direct the kitchen staff to prepare the food as per the order. Here
the kitchen and the associated staff will further move the process. They will prepare the food of
the customer as per their order.
Packaging:
After the preparation of the food, it will either be serve in the PAM or as per the
customer’s instruction it will be packed and move forwards. This can be understood that if the
customer has booked the table then it will be served there but in case of take away delivery it
will be appropriately packaged and then delivered.
Order received:
This is the last step of the process where the food or the order is being received by the
customer. At this stage the entire business process ends because where the ultimate delivery of
the food is being take place.
Thus, by following the above simple business process the PAM deliver and operate its
business function and operation.
1.2 Main decision
No process would be complete without the inculcation of certain decision. With reference
to this process also there are certain set of decisions that are needed to be taken so that the
successful implementation of the entire process take place. The main business decision includes:
Appointment of employees:
This is one of the major and important business decision that is needed to be taken first.
Here the input includes careful selection and appointment of adequate personnel within the
restaurant. As per this step the appointment of workforce is being performed like cashier, kitchen
staff and various other. This will lead to the production of outcome in the form of fulfilment of
the need of the customer or the achievement of the objective of the PAM.
