INTRODUCTION
Diversity simply means working of a large number of people together who belong from
different backgrounds and culture (Laikre, 2010). One of the main advantages of working in
diversity is that it provides an opportunity to employees to identify the ways for knowing
differences of an individual and respect the same. This makes the working environment of a firm
more productive and effective. Concept of diversity is detailed in this report. Along with this,
various laws and their impact on the workplace are detailed here.
ASSESSMENT 1
1. Diversity
Workplace diversity refers to the differences among the workers working in an
enterprise. It encompasses respect and acceptance. Diversity is an understanding of the fact that
every individual is different or unique from the other and it is a recognition of the own individual
differences. Gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, physical abilities, religious beliefs
experience and ideologies of a person all cover under this (Diversity at workplace, 2017). At
workplace it is very important to protect and support diversity because valuing individual is very
important because it fosters a climate of better productivity.
2. Ten differences that must be include in a diverse workplace
One of the main advantage of having diversity at workplace is that it provide different
talent to the enterprise. It provides an opportunity to the people to respect individual differences.
People from different background present their own ideas which help the firm in getting
competitive advantage. Social values, family obligations, customs, religious practices, dress,
non-verbal behaviour, life experience, education level, personality and socio-economic status are
the top ten differences which must be there in a diverse workplace.
3. Which people are more discriminated against in the Australian society
A research has revealed the fact that out of 5 students every 1 student experience the
discrimination every day on the basis of colour (Laikre and et. al., 2010). At workplace, an
individual out of 3 face the racism. An effort can be done by the organisation to reduce this by
teaching to staff members how to recognise and prevent the discrimination. In sports also, 1

individual out of 5 face the discrimination in every sports event. In Australia people discriminate
the individuals more on the basis of their culture and colour.
4. Two examples of experiencing discrimination in Australia
I have seen discrimination in Austral. I was working in an enterprise and top managers of
that firms always consider the male employees for the promotion. They do discrimination on the
basis of gender which is not correct as this not only decrease the morale of female workers
working there but also reduce their productivity.
Second example of discrimination was I saw at a public event. Where people talk and
respect with the individual belongs from the good culture and was neglecting the individual
belongs from the other low level culture.
