Advocacy for Early
Childhood Students with
and Without
Exceptionalities

Preschool children with
exceptionalities
The term exceptionalities in a K-12 school refers to both the
disabilities and giftedness.
According to the Disabilities Education Act ’04 (IDEA ’04)
individuals with disabilities should provide appropriate
education to the students with disabilities.

The purpose and the importance of detecting
preschool children with exceptionalities (both
gifted and disabled)
Early detection of children with disabilities helps the
doctors to take precautions from the grass root level
(Lee et al., 2015).
At the time of childhood, people are less influenced by
the peers and can avoid self-stigmatization easily and
hence it becomes easier to carry on with the treatment.
The educators can focus on the limitations from
beforehand and take appropriate measures.
Behavioural problems, not addressed during childhood
can continue up to high school, who are likely to drop
out from school.
