It is one of the fastest growing industry that majorlycontributes to increase the gross revenue for the economy. This sector covers a wide range ofoperating functions (Barrows, Powers and Reynolds, 2012). Operations of the hospitalityindustry mainly classified into three categories that are accommodation facilities, food andbeverages as well as travel and tourism services. Accommodation services mainly involveshotels, motels and resort services. On contrary, restaurant, bars, cafes and night clubs servicesfulfil the food and beverages requirement of customers. However, travel and tourism industryincludes transportation services such as airline, ships and taxi cabs services. Further, theindustry provides services for flight attendants, travel agents, tour operators and leisurecentres. The industry transports people to new venues and places and assists throughaccommodation facilities. In addition to it, international tourism consists of number oftourists who travel from their residence country to another country. People travel in differentcountries for the purpose of visiting. However, the time period for staying in another countrywill not exceed from 12 months. Success of this industry significantly helps in making economic development. Itbuilds economic growth through generating incomes and creating jobs that help to reduceunemployment rates to a great extent (Bernini and Cracolici, 2015). Further, the industryhelps to maintain the welfare of society. In United Kingdom, sector employs millions ofpeople in many establishments that contribute pounds of billion to the UK economy. Thus, itcan be said that travel and tourism industry is a vital source for the economy. Success of theindustry depends upon the ability of the establishments to attract large number of tourists andvisitors in their country. International tourism and hospitality industry in the digital ageexplore opportunities for making growth and development. Currently, market is highly competitive therefore organizations are facing distinctissues in the market. Every industry whether it is business organization or service industry isfacing some kind of key issues due to rapidly changes in the environment. There are differentfactors that are existed in the market that bring risk to the industry. It includes culturalchanges, political environment changes, customer preferences, their consumption behaviour,social issues and so on (Bharwani and Butt, 2012). Therefore, it is important for companies toidentify all the issues and then make effective and strategic planning in order to eliminate itsnegative impacts. The policy makers are required to address all the key issues that they can

face in future period so as to achieve the organizational goals. By assessing all the key issues,establishments can gain competitive advantage over their competitors. The present report willhelp in identifying the general issues that may arise in tourism and hospitality industry in theupcoming ten years. International Society of Hospitality Consultants (ISHC) has definedsome key issues that are described below:Shortage of Labour and their skills: Tourism and Hospitality is labour intensive andlarge source of employment. It creates number of jobs that require varying degree of skills,knowledge and experiences (Brotherton, ed., 2012).The industry provide jobs for both thedirect and indirect occupations. Direct occupations are related to sector's activities thatinclude hotel and restaurant employees while indirect occupations include taxi services,transport occupations services, tourists guide and others. One of the major global challengesthat industry confronting is labour and skills shortage. It is the problem of attracting qualifiedand skilled workforce and retaining them in the organization. In UK, State of Nation reportsstated that in the difficult economic conditions, it is important for industry to improve skillsthrough getting services from skilled and qualified workers. The present report is highlightedthat industry needs to focus on the staff retention issues. Further, the British HospitalityAssociation focuses on Tourism and Hospitality industry to be recognised as world class. UKGovernment focuses on providing and creating valuable jobs in order to get competitiveadvantage and build economic growth (Dale, Ritchie and Keating, 2012). There are differentfactors that cause labour shortage including demographic factor, wages rate, industryreputation and so on. Under the demographic factor, large number of workers are leaving theorganizations. Further, it is comparatively lower than the number of workers who are enteringin the industry. Moreover, employees have the objectives to earn higher income. Therefore,lower the level of workers salary and their wages rate reduces the number of skilled workers.Therefore, it becomes difficult for the hospitality industry to attract and retain qualifiedemployees for the longer time period. On contrary, reputation of the hospitality industry hasnot attracted large college graduates as their top career choice. Knowing customer’s taste, preferences, their likes, dislikes and their expectation is ofgreat importance on which the success of industry depends mostly. Higher the level of skillsoffers best quality of services. This in turn, improves its reputation to a great extent.Moreover, it helps to improve the quality of customer services and their level of satisfaction.Therefore, it becomes necessary for industry to attract and recruit qualified and experiencedemployees in the business.
