1EFFECTIVE BUSINESS COMMUNICATION Communication has become an indispensible part of the business world and helps the various organizations to convey important messages or information to not only the employees but also to the customers or the stakeholders as well. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the business operations of any organization depends on the style or the model of communication which is being used by the concerned organization for the purpose of conveying the messages or the information to the desired entities (Kim, 2015). In this regard, the notion of business communication has gained a significant prominence within the framework of the business world and various innovative channels as well tools of communication are being used by the organizations for the process of communication (Johansson, Miller & Hamrin, 2014). I believe that the concept of interpersonal communication is likely to help me in a significant manner during the course of my work as a manager in a business enterprise in the future. The effective use of this particular concept is likely to help me to communicate in an effective manner with the employees within the workplace. It will also help me to effectively convey the important work related information to the employees and thereby enhance the overall performance of the concerned organization. The purpose of this essay is to reflect on the machinery of business communication and its various related aspects. The essay consists of four parts or segments, namely, introduction, an overview of the one topic from the ten weekly materials that was provided to me, next a literature review ofthe process of interpersonal communication,an overview of the manner in which interpersonal communication and communication competency would be helpful for me during my workasamanagerinthebusinessworldandfinallyconclusion.Theprocessofbusiness communication by enabling a particular organization to integrate the diverse entities of its workplace can help it to attain a higher level of productivity. The next section of the essay will discuss about one important concept from the first five weekly materials that was provided to me in the class. This paragraph will focus on the five important topics that were provided to me in week one to week five. I am of the viewpoint that in the week one materials, which focused on the concept of communication, the topic of interpersonal communication is very important from the perspective of my future work as a manager. As already mentioned, the usage of this concept will help me to

Furthermore, through the use of this concept I would be able to not only effectively manage the different conflicts but also to convey the important work related information to the employees. This will help me to improve the performance of the employees and the entire organization in an effective manner. In the second week, we discussed about the concept of non-verbal communication. In this regard, I think that the topic of listening is important from the perspective of my future line of work as a manager since the effective usage of this concept will enable me to listen to the thinks that the individuals had to say and thereby make the necessary decisions or the choices on the basis of that. The third week material provided an introduction to the concept of professional written communication and its related aspects. This weekly material introduced me to the topic of writing business emails which is important from the perspective of my future work as a manager. As a manager, I would have to write different emails not only to the higher authorities and employees but also to the stakeholders as well. Thus, the usage of this concept is likely to help me in an effective manner. In the fourth week, I was introduced to the concept of academic written communication and in this weekly material I felt that the topic of sentence structuring is very important. For example, in my future job role as the manager of a business enterprise I would be required to write various kinds of business reports and the effectiveness of these reports depend on the structuring of the sentences that I will be using. Thus, the use of this concept will help me to write the kind of reports which will not only be technically correct but will also be logical and effective. Lastly, the fifth weekly material was a continuation of the fourth weekly material and within this weekly material I felt that self reflective writing is important. For example, as a manager I would be required to present my opinions before the higher authorities and the employees in written form regarding the important issues of the organization. Thus, I am hoping that the effective use of this particular concept will help me in a significant manner. The next paragraph will discuss about one important concept from each of the weeks six to ten materials. The sixth weekly material focused on the concept of professional presentation and in this

For example, the effective use of this particular concept will help me to present professional presentations in an effective manner. The managers of the present time are required to present diverse presentations to the management teams and the higher authorities and thus this will be a very useful concept for me. The seventh weekly material provided information regarding intercultural communication and in this week I found the topic of face-recognition theory of communication very important. For example, the use of this topic will enable me to communicate in an effective manner with the employees from the different cultural backgrounds. In the eight week I was introduced to the concept of organizational communication and within this material I found the topic of communication media choices very important. The selection of adequate media for the purpose of communication will help me to convey the desired information to the employees and the stakeholders in an effective manner as a manager. The ninth weekly material provided an overview of small group and team communication. In this week I found the topic of groups and teams very important since in my future role as the manager of an organization I would be required to manage the different groups or the teams of the concerned organization. Finally, the tenth weekly material was concerned with persuasive and influential communication and within this I found the concept of assertive communication very important. This will be important from the perspective of my future line of work as a manager since I will be required to influence the employees to work towards the growth of the concerned organization. The next section of the essay will undertake a literature review of the concept of interpersonal communication. Interpersonal communication refers to the process by means of which the individuals indulge in one-on-one or group conversation or communication (Berger, 2014). Furthermore, the machinery of interpersonal communication is mainly concerned with the process of face-to-face communication (Manning, 2014). The construct of interpersonal communication is concerned with two processes, namely, verbal communication and non-verbal communication (Dragojevic, Gasiorek & Giles, 2015). The process of verbal communication deals with the kind of communication wherein the individuals involved in the process take the help of words or phrases to convey the required information (Thakker et al., 2017). Many experts are of the viewpoint that together these two modes of communication comprise the majority of the communication that is being used in the present day workplaces (Mojzisch et al., 2014). In the recent times, it is seen that various kinds of communication models and theories have gained prominence which not only try to define the different kind of communication processes used by the different organizations but also try to explain the necessity of the same (Knobloch, 2015). In this particular context, the diverse precepts of the “Social Exchange Theory” become important to note. For example, the theory states that the various individuals primarily indulge in the process to form effective bonds which can help them during the various stages of their lives (Parks & Faw, 2014). This becomes important from the perspective of the business enterprises. The diverse organizations following the precepts of this theory use the process of communication not only to cascade the important information or message to the concerned entities but also to create meaningful bonds within the workplace which can improve the job productivity of the employees in a significant manner (Gilkerson & Southwell, 2015). The effective utilization of the concept of interpersonal communication provides various kinds of benefits to the individuals and also to the organizations. For example, one of the most important benefits that the effective use of this communication method provides to the diverse organizations is the fact that it helps in transferring the required information to the desired individuals (Berger, 2014). Furthermore, the face-to-face communication style which this method requires the individuals to use helps the concerned individual to understand whether or not the information conveyed by them had been understood by the receiver or not (Shen et al., 2016). In addition to these, it is seen that this communication style is being used by the various managers and others to persuade the individuals to perform the kind of job roles that initially they have been reluctant to perform (Sadia et al., 2016). The next paragraph will discuss about the two important entities which have been taught to me in the ten weekly materials that can help me during my future job role as a manager.
5EFFECTIVE BUSINESS COMMUNICATION In this paragraph I will discuss about the ways in which the concepts of interpersonal communication and communication competency are likely to help me during my future line of work as a manager. For example, the tool of interpersonal communication will enable me to communicate in an effective manner with my colleagues and will also help me to understand whether or not the message that I have cascaded have been understood by them. Furthermore, the tool of communication competency will enable me to understand not only my own communication competencies but also of the ones with whom I am communicating. This will not only improve the communication style that I normally use but would also help me to communicate in a much effective manner with others. In conclusion, the process of communication renders various kinds of benefits to the diverse organizations. Furthermore, it is seen that the prospects of an organization depends to a great extent on the kind of communication model or style that the concerned organization is using. In this regard, theconceptsofinterpersonalcommunicationandcommunicationcompetencybecomesvery important and the managers and others are required to posses these skills to contribute in a positive manner towards the growth of the concerned organization. This relates back to the thesis statement that this essay stated at the beginning: the effective use of the process of communication can help an organization to attain a higher level of productivity. Thus, to summarize it would be apt to say that the process of communication has become an indispensible part of the business world.
