INTRODUCTION
Communication means exchanging of the ideas and thoughts or transferring the
information between the persons or group of persons. It is act of sharing of the ideas and useful
informations from one person to the other (Murphy and et.al., 2019). This includes various
modes through which communication can take place. The aim of communication is that the
information that is transferred from one person to other should be cleared and easily
understandable. Communication is very important in daily life as this helps in transferring the
informative values to one another. Effective communication plays an major role in the
organisations as this helps in sharing the plans, ideas , goal and opinions from upper level to
lower level of management. In this report various modes of communication will be discussed.
This report contains different kind of communication skills . There are some points that
highlighted the communication barriers which results in poor communication. Suggestions will
also be discussed in this report for the improvement of the communication process by using
various theories.

Models Of Communication
Shannon and Weaver : This model was developed in 1949 by Claude Shannon and
Warren Weaver. It was designed to regulate the function of the telephone technology and radio.
They have developed a model in which there is a sender present who speaks in the telephone in
order to send the information and there is a receiver present on the other end who receives the
information. This model contains various elements through which the process of transferring the
information takes place. The various elements are sender, encoder, channel, decoder, receiver
and noise. These all elements of this model makes the communication process possible. In this
model, sender is whom who formulate the message, select the mode and transfers the message.
Encoder means the machine that is used by the sender to sends the message. Channel is the mode
which are used for transferring the message. Decoder is a machine that is used to covert the
signals into the message. Receiver in this process is the person who gets the message that is send
by the sender. Noise is that part of which causes disturbance while transferring the information

signals into the message. Receiver in this process is the person who gets the message that is send
by the sender. Noise is that part of which causes disturbance while transferring the information
through telephonic process. These disturbances can be caused by various factors like
environment, people, crowd noise etc. In case of Maria and Pedro they have faced
communication barriers as Pedro misunderstood what the Maria said on the phone. They can
overcome this problem as they should use the high quality technology of communication which
does not cause any problem in communication (Badak, 2020). They should use the effective
channel for passing the information to each other. This will help them in easy understanding of
the information through the use of right technology. As Pedro works on a building site and there
are so much noise and disturbance while he talks with his wife on the phone, So he should use
the effective way of communication which dost not lead in misunderstanding of the information.
Schramm : This model was given by Charles Osgood in 1954 and later on it was
published by W. Schramm in his book. This model stated that the communication process is a
circular model and not a linear process. It described it as the communication takes place only
between the sender and the receiver and it contains all the essential elements that an effective
communication needs. This model focuses on that the information that is passed should only be
understood by the receiver and the sender. It states there are only two elements required for
transferring the information that is sender who send the message and the receiver who receives
the message. In this sender and the receiver has to only code and decode the message. According
to this model encoding and decoding both are the main elements for the effective
communication. In this model the sender encodes the message and the receiver decodes it for
understanding the message . Then after this the receiver becomes the sender when they reply to
the sender and this process becomes vice-versa. In the event of Maria and Pedro, there is a miss
communication can be seen as Pedro receives the wrong information while he was talking with
his wife on the phone. Her wife said to bring the chicken but he understands that she will meet
her in the kitchen. This communication problem occurred between them as Pedro could not
effectively decodes the message which his wife transfer him (Selvarajah and et.al., 2021). Pedro
should focus while talking on the phone that what her wife is trying to says because he is the
only person who have to decodes the message and to understand it effectively. As in this model
of communication the main elements that are present is the sender and the receiver and there is
no any involvement is of any other element. So Pedro should listen carefully what his wife is
trying to say on the phone. This will not led to miss communication if he effectively decodes the
message that is passed by her wife.

Berlo: This model is known as the SMCR model of communication. SMCR means
sender, message, channel and the receiver. This model was given by David Berlo in 1960. It also
focuses on the coding and the decoding of the messages that takes place between the persons.
This helps to make the communication process more effective. This model was made to enhance
the technical parts of the communication and later on it has applied on the other fields as well.
This model consists four elements that makes the communication process possible. It includes
sender, receiver, message and channel (D’Alimonte, McLaney, and Di Prospero, 2019). This
model has describes various barriers that come across the communication process. Noise and loss
of distortion are the major elements that create problems in the communication. In regards to the
case of Pedro and Maria they face difficulty in communicating with each other. As they faces the
barrier of noise in their communicating process that mislead the information. Pedro should
consider the noise barrier through which he can effectively understands the message which her
wife was trying to give him. This model of communication will help them in effectively coding
and decoding the message.
From above it can be evaluated that these models of communication plays an important
role in effective communication. These models suggests the corrective measures for solving the
problems that comes in way of transferring the information. It can be analysed that coding and
decoding are the most important elements in the communicating which helps in understanding
the message easily.
Communication skills
These skills means the ability of understanding and transferring the information or any
kind of message effectively. These skills involves active listening, speaking, empathising and
observing. These all qualities makes the communication process more effective and efficient.
Communication skills helps in understanding the different modes by which an individual can
interact with others. There are various modes for conveying the messages like phone
conversations, face to face interactions and digital communicating. Active listening, confidence,
friendliness and clarity in message are the qualities through which a person can become a
effective communicator.
Verbal communication:
This communication means transferring the information orally or when the
communication takes place through spoken words. In this the sender conveys the message
sender, message, channel and the receiver. This model was given by David Berlo in 1960. It also
focuses on the coding and the decoding of the messages that takes place between the persons.

Verbal communication:
This communication means transferring the information orally or when the
communication takes place through spoken words. In this the sender conveys the message
through presentations, speeches and conversations. It is a effective way of passing the
information but sometimes it depends upon the tone, volume, quality of words of the speaker that
how they conveys the message (Cooper and et.al., 2020). The effective verbal communication is
not only depends upon the speaker but it also emphasis on that how the receiver or listener
understands the message. This method of communication includes both speaking as well as
written communication.
Non-verbal communication:
Non verbal communication means transferring of the message or idea through body
languages and not through orally or in a written manner. It means passing the information
without any use of the words in the communication. In other words communicating with one
another by using of facial expressions, postures, gestures is called as non verbal communication.
Non verbal communication helps in maintaining the healthier relationship with the others while
verbal communication only conveys the external factors and events (Presbitero, 2021). It helps in
regulates the flow of communication through gestures and facial expressions etc.
Listening :
Listening is the capability to understands the message and information in a effective
manner. It is the main feature in the communication process as it starts with decoding the
message and to understands it carefully. Without the listening ability a communication process
can't become effective as if the listener misunderstood the message then the whole
communication process will fails (Real, Hartsough and Huddleston, 2021). Listening skills are
very necessary in communicating the ideas and messages to others as if the listener will not pay
any attention in listening then the process of communication will break down. Listener should
listen each and every part of the message that are being conveyed to them in order to lead the
communication process effectively.
The advantages and disadvantages of technology in communication.
Advantages of technology in communication
Technology plays an major role in the effective communication. In today's era technology
has become a necessary in every sector as well as in communication. Technologies helps in
conveying the message more effectively and efficiently. In the case of emergencies technology
helps in conveying the messages in few seconds (Roberts and et.al., 2019). This enables the
transferring of the message or information form one end to the other end of the world in
information but sometimes it depends upon the tone, volume, quality of words of the speaker that
how they conveys the message (Cooper and et.al., 2020). The effective verbal communication is

conveying the message from various modes of communication like phone, emails, messages etc.
Disadvantages of technology in communication
There are some disadvantages too of the technology in communicating with each other.
Older generation faces difficulty in using the technology for the purpose of communication
which sometimes results in delaying of the communication. Technology is not always reliable
that the information that is being passed through online news, mails are always correct. This does
not develop any personal relation with the others as this does not involve any face to face
interactions (Kowalski, 2018). There is always a risk in communicating through various online
modes as sometimes the person whom we are talking over internet may turns out to be a fraud.
Problems and recommendations
In case of Pedro and Maria they have faced the problem in communicating with each
other as he misunderstood the message which results in the different meaning of the information.
Pedro works in a building site and he has faced the problem of noise and disturbance which
becomes the reason of the miss communication. He also faces issue in decoding the message
effectively (Bedford and et.al., 2022). They also faces the issue of technology as they uses the
telephonic method to convey the message but the message that her wife have conveyed to her
was not clear.
Pedro should use effectively decodes the message which helps in easy understanding of
the information. They can make their communication process better by using latest technology
which helps them in making their communication process more effective and efficient. They
should consider the noise element while talking on the phone as Pedro works in a building sites
