INTRODUCTION
Communication refers to the process of interaction among the individual or group of
individuals in which exchange of message take place by speaking, using gestures or writing
(Başoğul, 2021). Communication is two way process between the two or more parties, it
involves the sender who delivers the message while other one is receiver who gets the message
and understand the information communicated by sender. In order to share thoughts and
exchanging information, ideas, views or opinions in efficient way it is necessary to make proper
communication between the parties. Business communication is required for the process of
sharing knowledge and information between people within the organisation. Effective
communication helps business in providing better working environment, promotes good
relationship between employees and managers, also proper communication flow from higher
level to lower brings proper coordination and employees can perform smoothly without any
confusion in business. Communication also have some barriers and can affect the flow and some
times it breakdown the real information and can create barrier in effective communication. The
most common barriers may arise due to employees with different cultures, values and their
languages. Due to poor communication an individual will not be able to understand the message
and will get confused (Colman, Patera and Hebbar, 2019). The overall performance will also be
affected by poor communication. This report includes the models of communication, skills
required for having an effective communication. The pros and cons of technology in
communication and lastly the impact of poor communication along with the measures that could
be taken in order to improve communication.
MAIN BODY
1. Models of communication
Shannon and Weaver Model
Shannon and weaver model of communication was given by Shannon and Weaver in
1948, who were from America (Copeland, 2021). The Shannon was the Mathematician and
electronic engineer, whereas Weaver was scientist. They together gave the theory on
communication which is known as Shannon and Weaver Model of communication. In this model
sender encodes the message and send it to receiver with help of technological channels like
telephones or telegraphs. Sender converts the message into codes that can be understandable to

machines. This model helps in making communication effective by removing noise or the
problem causing noise.
Maria and Pedro Case Study
The case study of Maria and Pedro states that Maria ping Pedro to bring chicken when he
gets back to home. Pedro agreed to it and went back to home. After reaching home he directly
went to kitchen and called Maria (Gharaveis, Hamilton and Pati, 2018). She was in the sitting
room and saw Pedro with empty hand, so she asked where is the chicken. Pedro was not able to
understand about which chicken Maria was talking about because he heard that Maria was saying
she will see Pedro in the kitchen. This is how due to noise barrier Pedro was not able to
understand the message delivered by Maria and was misguided.
How misunderstanding could be avoided?
The misunderstanding in any type of communication could be avoided by certain ways.
The sender can repeat the important information in order to avoid misunderstanding. The
encoder should also send the message or information in written to the decoder so that if any
miscommunication has taken place then it can be avoided. With this the decoder should pay full
attention towards the message delivered by the sender and be an active listener. In the above case
study of Maria and Pedro, if Maria has to send message to Pedro, it should be in clear form and
can be easily understand by Pedro.
Workplace Example
The manager of the organisation was communicating with the employees through video
call conferencing. While communicating due to network issue the employees are not able to
understand the message delivered by the manger. With this the manger do not provide any
