the justification of selection of leadership styles
Leadership is the process of leading, guiding, instructing and motivating the human
resources of an organisation so that they can do harder work towards the attainment of
organisational goals and objectives in an effective as well as efficient manner. Every
organisation follows a leadership style within its business in order to operate business activities
in an effective way (Demir and et.al., 2019). Leadership style is a method that is followed by the
leaders of an organisation for implementing plans, providing directions as well as motivating the
workforce. In context to Sofitel Hotel, it is a characteristic behaviour of a leader within hotel at
the time of guiding, directing, motivating and managing team and its members while performing
business operations. There are various kinds of leadership styles that are followed in an
organisation and some of these leadership styles are described as under:
Autocratic Leadership Style: This leadership style states that only manager of an
organisation takes and control all the decisions and seeks little input from the members of
the group. Such kind of leaders critically make choices on the basis of the judgements
and the ideas as well as rarely accept the advice from their subordinates within the
workplace. In context to Sofitel Hotel, the managers of the organisation takes all the
decisions which are to be followed by the employees of the hotel. Such type of leadership
style is helpful in the situations wherein an organisation faces consistent changes or
crisis.
Democratic Leadership Style: It is another kind of leadership style in which all the
members of a team or an organisation take active participation in the process of decision-
making (Gudkov, Dedkova and Dudina, 2018). These members bring forward their
thoughts, ideas and opinions in front of their managers and other people within the

of problem-solving. It is considered as one of the more effective styles of leadership as it
permits the employees of lower levels in order to exercise the power they will require to
use in future period they may hold in a wise manner.
Situational Leadership Style: It is a style of leadership in which the all the leaders of an
organisation take into account the readiness level of the members of the team that are
served by them along with the uniqueness of each situation (Gursoy, 2018). Within
Sofitel Hotel, these kinds of leaders have the flexibility of adapting to anything effective
within the hotel. As per this leadership style, the situational leaders have a different style
in order to handle various situations through having support of different skills sets an
abilities of the manpower working in hotel. This leadership style enhances the
productivity and efficiency within the workplace by creating comfortable working
environment.
Transactional Leadership Style: This kind of leadership style is also known as
managerial leadership style in which the managers of an organisation depends on the
rewards as well as punishments in order to achieve optimal performance of job role from
its employees. Through this leadership style, the subordinates are motivated and directed
by appealing to their own self-interest. In context to Sofitel Hotel, the power of the
transactional leaders within the hotel comes from their formal responsibility and authority
within the workplace. This kind of leadership style facilitates in establishing the
responsibilities as well as roles for a single person and can use incentives programs in
order to motivate the human resources of the organisation.
Transformational Leadership Style: With the help of this type of leadership style, the
workforce within the organisation gets encouraged, motivated and inspired by the
superiors of the organisation in order to create as well as innovate the changes which will
facilitate in growing as well as shaping the future success of the business (He and et.al.,
2018). In relation to Sofitel Hotel, these kinds of leaders within the hotel provide

organisational objectives and goals in an effective manner. Such kind of leadership style
is greatly an encouraged form of the leadership among the growth-minded organisations

workplace.
Document Page
Delegative Leadership Style: Such type of leadership style mainly concentrates on the
the process of delegating the initiatives to the members of the team. This leadership style
can be an effective approach in case if the members of the team stay competitive and take
accountability as well as prefer involvement within the work of an individual. Within
Sofitel Hotel, the leaders of this category are hands-off and permit the members of the
team in order to make the well informed decisions related to the organisation (Kaurav,
Baber and Rajput, 2020). In such way, this kind of leadership style helps in improving the
satisfaction of its employees and may also create a fragmented workplace and along with
this, it can prevent the human resources of the organisation from working towards a
common objective and goal.
Justification of selection of leadership styles:
From above discussion of different leadership styles, it can be justified that the leaders of
the Sofitel Hotel should follow Autocratic Leadership Style because there are unpredictable
demands within the hospitality industry. This kind of leadership style enables the managers of
the respective hotel in making quick decisions and the process of faster decision-making is
considered as the key in order to achieve the goals and objectives of the organisation. In case if
there is a situation when the business of this hotel faces constant changes then this kind of
leadership style is helpful in this situation and the leaders of the hotel can make effective
decisions at that time by not wasting their time through taking suggestions from their
subordinates. With the help of autocratic leadership style, the supervisors of the hotel will be
able to react on the situations promptly in comparison to other kinds of leadership styles because
of streamlined structure of the hotel and the ability of making fast decisions (Khan and et.al.,
2021). Hence, it can be justified that autocratic leadership style will be an effective approach for
