Introduction
Emirates Airlines is an organization which operates in the airlines based industry of
Dubai in United Arab Emirates. The organization is a part of the Emirates Group which is
mainly owned by Investment Corporation of Dubai that is a government based company.
Emirates is considered to be largest airlines based organization in entire Middle East and
operates more than 3000 flights within a week. The cargo based activities which are
conducted by the organization are mainly organized with the help of Emirates Sky Cargo
(Emirates.com, 2018).
The essay will be based on the ways by which Emirates is able to fulfil the corporate
social responsibility related activities that are conducted by the organization. The position
which has been developed by the organization based on corporate social responsibility related
activities will be analysed in the essay.
Discussion based on the corporate social responsibility of Emirates Airlines
As discussed by Bhattacharya et al. (2017), corporate social responsibility or CSR can
be considered by an organization as a way which is helpful in proving its existence instead of
just making profit. The initiative based on CSR which has been taken by the company is
based on the interest levels of the customers. The CSR based activities are conducted by
Emirates Airlines in order to improve the reputation in airlines industry. The organization had
thereby aimed at donating talent, time and resources to different communities, families and
clients. The company is committed towards the environmental and the social responsibilities
which need to fulfilled in order to continue the profitable operations. Emirates had started its
CSR based journey in the year 2006 and the company has been able to go a long way in its
social responsibility based operations. The organization however has to fulfil many other
responsibilities in order to operate in the industry in a profitable manner.

According to Clapp and Rowlands (2014), Emirates is aiming at being responsive
towards the society and further provide its contribution towards the society as well. The
economy of UAE has shown huge levels of improvement in the recent times and Emirates
has many initiatives based on corporate social responsibility. The enhancement of community
relationships is another major reason behind developing corporate social responsibility. The
management of Emirates Airlines has also started showing huge awareness levels based on its
social responsibilities. Emirates Airlines is an organization which provides huge levels of
concentration towards the eco-environment based practices. The sustainability based
activities are thereby related to the proper usage of technology which include, iflex,
flextracks programme and single engine based taxiing.
The unique initiatives which have been taken by the organization include, the usage pf
younger aircrafts which provide less emission. The enhancement based efforts which have
been taken by the organization are based on the recycling efforts and Wolgan Valley resort.
Sustainability can thereby be achieved by the organization by providing focus towards the
fuel savings and emission, supply chain, recycling of the wastes and air traffic based control
(Takkar, 2015). The organization has also taken an initiative related to Non-Profitable
Emirates foundation which helps Emirates to take care of children who are suffering from
issues based on poverty. The organization has provided major funds to Bangladesh and
Africa for welfare of children. The social works which have been conducted by the
organization are based on Skyward Aids in different African countries (McWilliams, 2015).
Emirates Airlines has taken effective initiatives based on fuel efficiency related to
their aircrafts in the years 2010 and 2011. The activities related to fuel efficiency are
considered to be 25% higher as compared to other organizations within the airlines based
industry. The operations of Emirates Airlines are highly fuel efficient as compared to the
other organizations like, Cathay Pacific and Lufthansa. The emission of carbon-di-oxide from

the aircrafts operated by Emirates Airlines has been reduced. The levels of emission from the
aircrafts have been proved to be much lower as compared to the other large organizations
(Emirates.com, 2018).
The principles of creativity, scalability, responsiveness, circularity and glocality are
considered to be important part of the CSR based operations. Emirates Airlines has been able
to depict creativity and responsiveness in its operations and the CSR initiatives as well. The
organization has provided effective response to the issues related to the usage of energy. The
reduction of emissions is also a major response provided to environmental issues. The
glocality based activities have been developed by the organization as the CSR initiatives were
based on the local as well as the international operations. The communities which are present
in the areas of operations of Emirates have also been affected by the CSR initiatives.
The initiatives which have been taken by Emirates Airlines include many flexible
programs which are based on reduction of the hours of flight. The control which has been
shown for emission of carbon is based on the promotions of younger aircrafts. The
International Civil Aviation Organization or ICAO has mentioned that the levels of noise
which are emitted by operations of Emirates are lower as compared to the large
organizations. Emirates has provided high levels of importance of recycling based activities
of wastes which is related to the increase in sustainability levels. Proper usage of the
recyclable products is also considered to be highly important for the sustainable operations of
Emirates Airlines in the industry (Poussenkova et al., 2016).
The control based measures which have been taken by Emirates Airlines mainly
focusses on the development of eco-efficiency and sustainable operations as well. The
Environment program which has been developed by the organization is related to the ways by
which the eco-environment based activities. The corporate structure of Emirates Airlines has

been developed in such a manner which has the core value based on usage of different
innovative technologies. Different social indicators related to the operations of Emirates
Airlines is based on focus which is provided to the Emirates foundation program in the year
2003. The program was based on different areas which include, housing, health, education
and food for people who face poverty (Saeidi et al., 2015).
The levels of emission can be considered effective proof based on the ways by which
the company is maintain sustainability in operations. The fuel efficiency of aircrafts used by
Emirates is also considered to be a major factor which is able to affect the operations of
Emirates Airlines and the sustainability efforts as well. The initiatives which have been taken
by Emirates Airlines are related to the ways by which the organization is able to use the
resources. The reduction in usage of fuel is another major activity which can be considered to
be a major part of the initiatives which have been taken by Emirates Airlines (Tai & Chuang,
2014).

The essay can be concluded by stating that Emirates Airlines has been able to develop
a sustainable position in the airlines industry with the help of different initiatives which have
been taken by the organizations. The initiatives have also proved to be highly effective for the
operations of Emirates Airlines. The company has taken these unique initiatives in order to
create a leadership position in the industry.
