Good morning everyone, how is your work going? I have heard your institute is going to
organize an event for upcoming entrepreneurs, sounds good. So, you all must be working in a
team to accomplish several tasks and thereby ensuring that institute manages the event with
success. I can hear both Yes and No, so here I am, have got an opportunity to present
workshop on Emotional Intelligence which can be executed very well in upcoming days. Let
me give your brief on the topic first.
Emotions are the psychological state which once experiences over a period of time. Emotions
affects the way we feel, we think and we behave towards particular person or scenario. It can
be good or bad, positive or negative, helpful or harmful. It is essential for an individual to
manage their emotions throughout their professional and personal life, it even includes the
extent to which you cope up yourself from stressed situation. The emotional intelligence of
manager affects the motivation level of team members. And that in turns affects the
performance. Emotional intelligence basically demonstrates the capability of an individual.
The week 4 includes the essential concept of EI such as social awareness, self-awareness,
relationship management and self-management. This basically demonstrates how one can
identify their strength to minimize the effect of weaknesses and how strength can be utilized
to reduce the impact of limitations, understand the importance of self-worth and abilities. The
given activities evaluate the existing emotional intelligence of an individual by answering the
questions.

Activity 1 (30 min)
Here, you have to select any one option from list of four alternatives, answer which is most
relevant to your personality and behavior. The calculation of score will be based on answer
key given at the end of activities.
1. You are leading a meeting to execute new business strategy in the company, but your VP
will take credit of all research in front of directors, all the work you did for this strategy,
what you will do?
o Convey message to VP immediately, saying I did all work and it is not fair
o Convey message to VP after meeting that I would appreciate if all team members will be
given credit to the work done for any assignment

o You just keep calm saying nothing.
o After VP takes up the credit, you talk more about that particular task and give more
detailed information, enables you to convey challenges you face and compromises you
did.
2. Your response when your boss is getting angry with you and team members for
inappropriate presentation?
o Take a walk and ignore the matter

o Listen and note down all the improvements to be done
o Ask to explain what can make them weak.
3. Company is organising workshop for spreading equality for all employees belongs to
different race, caste or nation. one of the employee passes comment on religion X, after
the session.

4. One of the team members sharing his bad experience with client and he is really upset for
the same
o Take him for a coffee and share similar experience you had, how you dealt with it

o Suggest him not to overreact and let it go
5. A discussion with team member escalated in to full blown argument, where you both lost
anger and started insulting each other on their personal issues
o Pause the discussion for sometime
o Recollect the thoughts and state the discussion points
o Get angry and continue till one party wins
o Apologize and leave the place

6. You are asked to manage a team of software manager where the team has stuck in some
bug, they are not able to come up with any specific solution

while working with others, takes accountability for your team.

tend to behave in certain manner and how it can benefit the team.

For activity 2, ask people to divide themselves in groups of four and give sub pointers (self-
awareness, social awareness, self-management and relationship management) to discuss from
Emotional Intelligence model below; then ask them to describe their strength, areas of
improvement, and people management skills with examples. They must rate themselves on
four quadrants based on the past incidents. Ask them to share and discuss the incident
happened to them in the past and take other’s opinions as well.

As they people rate themselves, it could be helpful to measure the level of emotional
intelligence in them and where they stand in the above 4-quardrant diagram. The result
should be informed to the respective participants as a feedback on their level of emotional

Overall, activity one will enable an individual to assess their level of emotional intelligence.
Accordingly, they can improve their EI by attending workshops, engaging in social activities
or knowing self-worth. The score reflects three kids of manager at workplace having, low
mediocre and high level of emotional intelligence at their place. The questions are based on
the workplace behavior, it describes the common incidents which happens in everyday life,
deals with empathy, leadership and relationship.
Activity 2 will be in-depth analysis of an individual, the exercise basically emphasis on self-
evaluation. Each team will discuss their experience and related rating in each quadrant. It
enables us to know how the concept of EI helps us to enhance the performance and level of
satisfaction at workplace. Furthermore, it demonstrates how emotional intelligence is linked
with cognition development in one’s life.
