Introduction
International Air Transport Association (IATA) and other international aviation
organisations have worked in partnership to develop sensible environmental policies for airlines
to follow environmental policies and procedures in enabling their management to promote
sustainable and eco-efficient air transportation. It advocates globally accepted solutions for
airlines to make sure that they follow standardise procedure focused on climate change,
CORSIA, aircraft noise, local air quality, and illegal wildlife trafficking ( International Air
Transport Association (IATA), 2019).
The international policy standards are focused on developing environmental standards
recommended under the policy structure of the International Civil Aviation Organization
(ICAO). It is focused on working with airlines to identify globally accepted policy structure in
mitigating sector’s impact in providing input to regulate their procedures and work on
international negotiation (International Civil Aviation Organization, 2018).

airlines. The organisation is using a procedure called Flex tracks to plan and optimise their route,
it also has initiated a program called tailored arrivals to control air traffic uplink with its aircraft
to determine the speed and flight program with a continuous descent profile, saving fuel, and
carbon emission (The Emirates Group., 2019).
Compliance Regulations, Legal Parameters, And Policies to Manage Environmental Issues
Considering the status of the UAE market, it is important for the government to plan its
policies and procedures to preserve the natural environment planned by the governmental and
quasi-governmental authority. It is important for airlines and their stakeholder to work on
relevant environmental regulations ensuring their compliance with operations and processes to
avoid any legal or ethical issue towards their brand image. As stated under Federal Law # 24 of
1999 (Thacker & SK, 2019). The legislative framework designed to preserve Protection and
Development of Environment is based on the defined standards,
- Protecting and conserving the natural balance and quality of the environment
- Controlling the form of pollution to avoid any long term harm towards the environment
resulting in economic, industrial, or social development
- Developing natural resources to conserve biological diversity.
- Protecting the society (and their living standards) from activities imposing harm towards
the environment
- Protecting the UAE environment from harmful activities being carried out within the
state
- Complying the international and regional conversation ratified under the UAE
environmental standards while protecting it (Thacker & SK, 2019).

Emirate Airlines has been working in collaboration with Carbon Offsetting and
Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) to help adopt carbon-neutral growth
from 2020 to cover international aviation emission between countries and contribute their
participation in environmental preservation and pollution control. In support with ICAO,
Emirates has managed to establish a global approach to commit towards achieving carbon-
neutral growth in creating a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible civil aviation sector
in UAE (Payán‐Sánchez, Plaza‐Úbeda, Pérez‐Valls, & Carmona‐Moreno, 2018). While working
towards reducing carbon emission, it has worked to support more than 63 million people globally
by contributing USD 2.7 trillion per annum to global GDP. It is following the standards under
IATA to work with a four-pillar strategy to support its corporate and industry level operations
(The Emirate Group, 2019).
Present-day Practices and Procedures to Design Effective Practices
It has been found by evaluating the operations of Emirate Airlines that majority of its
carbon emission has been carried out from jet fuel consumption. The selection of aircraft and its
aligned technology has increased the opportunity for Emirates to increase its contribution to
environmental preservation. As it is outlined in the environmental report of Emirate, in 2017, the
business operations of the airline have helped its management to extend its environmental goals
(Somerville, Marino, Baxter, & Wild, 2016). The major pointers include,
- The Engineering staff has managed to save 11 million litres of water as they initiated
their operations with aircraft washing procedure
- The team managed to save 237 megawatt-hour electricity monthly using energy efficient
measures, for example by installing a light emitting diode in hangers (The Emirate
Group, 2019).

- Reserve thrush landing help pilots to save approximately 1170 tonnes of fuel which is
equal to 3686 tonnes of carbon dioxide (Bwapwa, Anandraj, & Trois, 2017).
Emirate as a company has committed to work with a continuous development procedure
in conserving the environment and invest in responsible work practice and eco-efficient
operations. It has also worked on environmental data to plan improvement initiatives using
different group activities by consulting with their stakeholders to work on commercial activities
on the ground. The airline is also known for its measures towards biodiversity and conservation
initiatives to improve their work procedures and practices aligned with the environmental policy
standards in the region (Karaman, Kilic, & Uyar, 2018).
Alternative Ways to Effectively Manage Environmental Areas
As it found on the official websites of the UAE Government, it is important for airlines to
protect the environment from implementing its policies and legislation to make an effort towards
sustainability. Some alternative areas in sustainable environmental policy development include,
- Banning Private ownership of Dangerous Animals – the government has passed the
Federal Law # 22 2016 to regulate the possession in trade of predatory, dangerous, and
semi-dangerous animals. It has encouraged the public to join voluntary activities to
protect animals (Bwapwa, Anandraj, & Trois, 2017).
- Environmental Protection – the government, has worked on the developmental policies

ministerial decrees, in preserving sustainable management in efficiently using natural
resources (Karaman, Kilic, & Uyar, 2018).
It is important for the Emirate’s management to focus on developing a culture based
environmental sustainability policy approach to promote environmental behaviour in conserving
to manage natural resources (Flouris & Yilmaz, 2016). The international standards of
environmental consumption and preservation are focused on the challenges of international
aviation standards to work on fulfilling its responsibilities in applying integrated measures in
addressing aircraft noises and emission in embracing technological improvement. It is used to
manage its operating procedures in planning the proper organisation of air traffic and embracing
technological improvement to operating procedure in air traffic in land-use planning using
market-based options (Karaman, Kilic, & Uyar, 2018).
Ecologically Beneficial Targets and Procedures
It is essential for organisations to work on sustainable planning in creating different units
of ground service equipment in planning new versions to replace their existing standards to reach
their life cycle. It has been found that the mechanical overhaul of the equipment in lifespan to
work up to 18 years (Bwapwa, Anandraj, & Trois, 2017). The part of the environmental setting

Techniques and Tools to Achieve Targets in the Workplace
The environmental conditions are changing, the weather conditions are changing, and
therefore, airlines are in between all these standards to upgrade their plans in achieving their
targets successfully (Dunn, 2019). The new targets for Emirate Airlines include,
- Mapping the national and regional program to work on external investment for Etihad to
contribute its part in environmental development
- Work on collaborative measures to work in coordination with initiatives to work on air
navigation plans and reduce carbon emission (Palmer, 2016)
This plan will support Emirate to work on global air navigation plan in aviation system
block upgrades as a methodology program in flexible global system in improving air navigation
to increase its capacity, improve environmental efficiency to work on modern air traffic growth
around the world and contribute its part in sustainable environmental program (Yazgan, 2018).
The upgrade in the tools and techniques work on defining standards for its states and stakeholder
from every perspective in aviation community associated with Emirate Airways in driving global
economic prosperity and economic development for the aviation community around the world
(Filimonau, Mika, & Pawlusiński, 2018).
In order to plan its operations, an organisation like Emirate Airlines is required to work
on Block Upgrade Global Framework in ensuring aviation safety to maintain and enhance the
ATM improvement programs, while reducing the barriers to future aviation efficiency and
environmental gain to work on a balanced cost. The improvement areas are planed under four
areas – airport operations, globally interoperable system and data, optimum capacity and flexible
flights, and efficient flight paths (Bwapwa, Anandraj, & Trois, 2017)

Communicating the Importance of New Protocol
Considering the climate change, the government has been working towards transforming
the region with sustainable initiatives and measures to work on renewable energy, public
transport, having a clean city environment, and building a greener environment. It has created
new opportunities for Emirate Airlines to look forward to improving its operational capacity to
fill in the gaps towards creating green jobs in planning policy domains to support its business
operations (Dunn, 2019). The areas in opportunities for Emirate Airline can focus on three
different ways,
- It will look forward to considering the shift in demand where different job occupation can
be outlined to meet the demand for others.
- It is also focused on looking towards the emergence of new occupations with new job
portfolio, occupations, and entrepreneurial opportunities to benefit green factor.
- It will also focus on involving corporate processes with its production to increase their
efficiency as a green company including environmental responsibilities (International
Civil Aviation Organization, 2018).
The projection of green jobs in the region relies upon technology deployment as it will
help the organisation to improve their work efficiency on global, regional, and international
level. It will further improvise the employment opportunities given to people by Emirate airline
in supporting their sustainable development aligned with the Federal Competitiveness and
Statistics Authority to make an official announcement in looking forward to estimation method
in improving environmental factors for Emirates to meet their operative goals and achieve their
targets successfully (Becken & Shuker, 2019).

The efficiency of New Practices
The on-board strategies taken by the Emirate airline has worked to minimise
environmental impact while boarding the aircraft. As it is defined above, the company has taken
measures with recyclable products to prevent save and reduce carbon emission in the
manufacturing process using the new plastic material. It has also reduced the unnecessary
material and resources for the organisation to save its cost and fuel. Meanwhile, the use of
biofuel by Emirate has increased the company's expenditure annually; it has adopted a
monitoring process to develop the greatest biofuel technology in the world with potable water
loaded for each flight planned upon passenger load and flying distance (Karaman, Kilic, & Uyar,
2018).
Successful and Unsuccessful measures for Emirates
Emirate airline has worked to control its fuel consumption in flight with anticipating the
ground to work on achieving its sustainable targets. Resources have been placed prominently
among the best flight arrangements available to improve courses in accordance with daily
climatic conditions and specific aerospace and aircraft requirements for each sector. In this
facility, the aviation team takes advantage of the availability of fuel and discharges whenever
possible and promoted by the Aviation Authority (Bwapwa, Anandraj and Trois, 2017).
Precedents include a nonstop rise, regression and changes in full flight paths to represent
motion bounces. When found, pilots in the emirate use an inverted reverse direction (instead of
the full rotational direction) and turn off the engine on the go where it is protected and can be
done as such. They have organised the utilisation of ground control and preconditioned air where
it is accessible with the goal that the air ship's assistant power unit can be turned off. These
measures help spare fuel and emanations to cut down on the commotion.
