ESSAY: The link between Leadership & MotivationINTRODUCTIONLeadership is termed as ability of an individual and organization in order control,monitor and influence to other individuals and employees working different position withinbusiness entity. Leadership plays important role for linking up business goals as per theindividual objectives of staff member (George, 2013). On the other hand, motivation is termedas behavioural situation that influence to an individual to implement best efforts and skills incompletion of various task and activities. It can be influenced by personal traits of an individualand external factors. The present essay is establishing the link between leadership andemployee motivation level. Therefore, it carries out detail assessment of different leadershipand motivation theories.MAIN BODY The leadership within an organization plays important role for influencing themotivation level of employees that can be positive and negative (Beck, 2013). The managementuses both financial and non-financial rewards in order to generate positive motivation amongemployees. On the other hand, threat of job termination and transfer are considered as toolsfor negative motivation. In this context, Trait theory of leadership has been found a great tool to assess theeffectiveness of leadership. This theory is based on the assumption that leaders are born notmade therefor this approach applies major emphasis on wide range of quality and skills thatreflects leadership ability of that particular person (Gill, 2011). These skills such ascommunication and development of personal relationship etc. are playing important role forinfluencing the behavior of an individual. It also assists manager in order to boost up the moraleof staff members. Apart from that Contingency theory of leadership has analyzed that leadership stylescan be varied according to various situations and environment. The administration of businessentity considers different controlling methods to influence and other individuals. In this regard,it has evaluated that autocratic leadership has played important role to influence unskilledworkers with the help of threats and strict rules (Dahl and Smimou, 2011). This method has3
