In the present era, it is essential for the management to emphasize on
the concepts such as individual difference and motivation. These two
concepts can be considered as the important concepts at the time of
managing the routine activities in the workplace. Individual difference
emphasizes on the traits that distinguishes the individuals from each
other. It simply defines the personality of an individual and the major kind
of individual difference can be related to intelligence, values and
personality traits. In the workplace, there are many individuals who work
together but they have different traits and values, so it can be said that
individual difference can be relates with the personality (Temminck,
Mearns & Fruhen, 2015).
On the other hand, motivation is also one of the essential concepts that
should be considered by the management as it helps in boosting the
performance of the individuals. If the employees are not motivated then it
would be difficult to accomplish the set targets and goals. The concept of
motivation is the major reason for the individual’s action, willingness and
also goals. The term motivation is derived from the word “motive” which
relates with the basic needs of workers. These needs can be attained
through the influence of culture, society and lifestyle. Motivation has a link
with the needs of the employees and if it is satisfied then it will assist in
enhancing the performance level and also assist in boosting the
satisfaction level of workers towards the assigned work (Sewell & Gilbert,
2015).
In the essay, the discussion will be made on the two concepts of
organizational behaviour. The two concepts are individual difference and
motivation. The first concept will be individual difference which will
emphasize on the personality and traits of the individuals. The second
concept will be motivation that will be described with the help of Maslow
hierarchy of needs theory. In the next phase of the paper, the link will be
made between both these concepts and in the last phase the summary
will be discussed of the entire paper. Therefore, it can be stated that in

this paper, these two concepts will be elaborated that plays an important
role in attaining growth among the competitors.
Individual difference
Individual difference is concerned with the three aspects such as
demography, competency and personality. Personality is one of the
concepts that are linked with individual difference. Personality is
considered the characteristics pattern of an individual in relation of
thinking, feeling and acting. It is noticed that difference in personality
always relates with the change in the individual behaviour. There are
various pros related to individual difference (Gelfand, Aycan, Erez &
Leung, 2017).
One of the pros is that it helps to consider the differences between the
employees in terms of intelligence and memory. If individual difference
exist among the employees, then it would be easy for the management to
make difference among the employees For example: In the workplace, it
is not possible to promote everyone so the higher authority has to
consider the capability of each individual in reference to intelligence and
skills. So, in this case individual difference plays an important role in the
workplace. But on the other hand, individual difference sometimes creates
conflict among the employees. The difference in their perception and
mind-set to deal with any situation varies, which arises conflict among
them (Graham, Ziegert & Capitano, 2015).
The individual difference has a link with the personality of an individual.
There are also various traits that create individual difference. Traits
relates with the observable behaviour that showcase the internal state of
the individual. In reference to personality, traits can be described with the
help of Big 5 Model of personality (Organ, 2018). This is one of the models
that showcase the personality traits in five dimensions.
