Introduction
Olympic Games originated from Greece at the beginning of the 19th century. The Olympic 2012
is simply known as London 2012, which is a multi-sports event, in which several nations from
the world had been participated from 27 July to 12 August 2012 in London. London is the first
city to host the Olympic Games for three times. The city was chosen from five shortlisted cities
that were New York, Paris, London, Madrid, and Moscow (Wilson, 2012). Hosting the
Olympic Games was a subject of pride for the city, and this credit led by various factors like
government support for the event, public opinion, infrastructure of the city, transport facility in
the city, sports venues, accommodation, security, finance and environmental impact that played a
significant role to obtain this opportunity in the city. Apart from the existing factor, government
and private organization had no stone left unturned to make a more likable environment for the
event.
Thus, in the preparation of the event, the city had regenerated and developed new venues around
Olympic Park in East London. Several new sports venues such as The Olympic Stadium,
Velodrome Aquatics Centre and BMX Circuit, Wembley Stadium, England Club, and Lord's
Cricket Ground had been developed. . In the regeneration policy of the city, new housing, new
roads, markets, shopping malls, and international transportation had been developed (TOE,
2012). This discussion covers the regeneration scenario and impact of Olympic 2012 on the
city.

Regeneration of the city
The Olympics games event 2012 in London was an amazing sporting experience and put the
London city under the spotlight in the world. With the completion of the event, London 2012, the
Olympic park had been transformed into the largest urban park created in the 150 years history
of Europe. The aims of the regeneration of London were the transformation of east London
which was backward to the rest London. In order to regeneration of the city five main gaols such
as employment development, affordable housing, transport facility development, development of
volunteer spirit and development of acceptation for the sports legacy for the all had been set.
These goals led to a lasting legacy of the events on the urban area of East London and by
following these goals the event became a tool of urban regeneration of the city (Pagnotta,
2012).
Urban regeneration during London 2012 covered the development of the buildings and
infrastructure of the city especially east London. Because east London was the area which is
hosting the events, it was in very poor condition with greater industrial wastelands, lower
employment rates, abandoned old industrial sites, lower academic results, and low performance
of local schools, lower household incomes and higher poverty and deprivation for the local
people.
The area was identified as a deprived part of the rest of the city.
