INTRODUCTION
Leadership refers to an art of motivating and influencing people or group of individuals
to act towards accomplishment of common goal (Yukl, 2013). This assignment is based on
leadership styles and behaviours.
TASK
Leadership is an act or ability of an individual to influence others by their thoughts and
actions. A great leader is courageous, possess a clear vision, has honesty, humility, integrity and
clear focus (Fairhurst and Connaughton, 2014). I believe that, being a good leader requires
continuous focus and team development that is accountable to get desired results. An effective
leader understands each individual of group, know their strengths and weaknesses to
appropriately manage team outcomes.

2. Leadership style
Three broad categories of leadership style are identified by Lewin which are defined below:
Authoritarian Leadership: This leadership style is strongly emphasize on both,
command by leader as well as control of followers. In this, decisions are made independently by
leaders without taking any input from group.
Participative Leadership: This style of leadership emphasize on encouraging team
members to participate in decision making process. Leaders offer guidance to team and allow
inputs from them (Leadership Styles, 2018).
Delegative Leadership: In this leadership, team shows little cooperation and are not able
to work independently. There is lack of direction by leaders due to which team members refuse
to accept their responsibility and blame each other for mistakes.
By quick polling, I determine that I possess participative leadership style. In polling 7 out
of 10 people vote that I democratic leadership style will be the good leadership style for me. I am
good in encouraging team members to work collectively and participate in process of decision
making. This will help me in taking effective decisions.
3. Examination of leadership style
By examining my leadership style, I have learned that my democratic leadership style
allows me to delegate responsibilities or work among team members as per their skills and
knowledge. It helps me in empowering group members and ensuring their presence in decision
making process. This style also assists me in developing strong teams and fostering creative
environment. Besides these advantages, the disadvantage of my leadership style is that during
certain situations, it comes across as being indecisive. In situation of crisis, I must be directive
rather than being a democratic leader but, I am not able to play authoritarian role.
CONCLUSION
As per the above mentioned report, it has been concluded that effective leadership helps
in influencing others and motivating them to work towards attainment of common goal.
