 Please include a Bibliography/ Reference List at the end of your assessment task for

 It is expected that you will give well constructed responses to each section of this
document and follow the instructions for each question.
 If you are asked to write a paragraph - it means that you need to write a paragraph.
1. Write a paragraph on each term, explaining the meaning of both terms and explain why you
understanding these terms when working in the community. Please use at least one academic
reference to support your answers. Look back over theory covered in classes.
Sociology: Sociology refers study in which people learn ways of understanding human behaviours and
society perceptions. It is useful in societies because with sociology, people learn and gain knowledge
about different race, gender and backgrounds. So, overall it can be said that sociology study can help
society members in understanding social and cultural aspects (Burrell, 2017).
Socialisation theory: Sociology is a process learning about ways of behaving in a manner that can be accepted
in the society. This theory in business or adjustment process can make individuals able in assuming
organisational roles that can fit to both organisations and individuals needs (Nason, Mazzelli and Carney,
2019).
2. Write a paragraph on each term, to explain your understanding of each perspective in your
own words. Visit the sociological perspectives we discussed in class and use these materials
to assist you.
Symbolic interaction ism: It is a sociological theory that mainly focuses on relationship among people within
an environment and society. In societies where people with different background and culture live, helps them
in knowing that how people create meanings and respond to word design.
Functionalism: It is a theory of all about the nature of mental state. It helps society members in knowing
reasons as why people are reacting like this and by knowing this, they can motivate and take actions
accordingly (Combs and et.al., 2020).
Conflict theory: This theory in societies focus on the competition and politics among people over limited
resources or different perceptions. It can help in maintaining inequality by providing appropriate solutions

Identity theory: This theory refers views of people on the relationship between mind and
body. This theory believes that some types of factors of mental states are contingent fact.
Social identity theory: It is people's sense or understanding that who they are in a group. In
this theory, individuals feel to a group and view themselves as an effective or responsible

member of a group (Scheepers and Ellemers, 2019). It helps society members in knowing each
others and living collaboratively.
4. Look around your community/region. Look at how organisations/groups have developed
resources that build sustainability into their projects/activities. Your answer should use a real
world example for both.
a) Find a real world example of an organisation/group that practices environmental sustainability
in their programs/ activities/ projects.
British overseas banks is a real example for an organisation who is taking environmental
sustainability into consideration so that there is going to be effective growth that is going to be
present. Environmental sustainability are factors which have to be present within a community so
that there are going to be higher performance for human kind for a long run.
b) Find a real world example of an organisation/group that practices socioeconomic sustainability
that benefits that community/ group over time.
Bestway is a real world example for socioeconomic sustainability that the community is having so
that the business would be able to grow effectively in the market. From the community the money
goes to the societies benefit which is going to make the stability and growth be present.
Act organic growers is making sure that there are actions which are being taken by the community
which is beneficial for the overall growth which is going to be present. Organic plants items is
beneficial for the society as well.
5. List FIVE important socioeconomic factors that can contribute to disadvantage in our
community. Then write a paragraph describing how (if at all) they impact on each other and
impact on the socioeconomic disadvantage of communities.
1. Heath- There is going to be low health factor in the society which is going to make a huge
impact on the overall working of the society.
2. Racism- There is going to be more racism which is going to take place in the society which is
not a very positive environment for the workers and the society as well to be able to develop.

3. Employment- Unemployment is also going to make the people have less understanding for
one another and development is going to be limited.
4. Culture and conflict- Cultural differences are present in the company which needs to be well
maintained otherwise there are a lot of conflicts which can rise and that is not a good factor
for the groups which are present in the society.
5. Income- Unemployment rates are also going to get affected majorly when there are not
taken into consideration. Poverty factor is also going to be present so that there are right
actions which are going to be taken.
6. Check out your local media outlets. Choose one current Australian hot topic issue. Think
about recent employment issues, COVID19, health, legal, education, human rights,
environmental changes, leglislation changes.
a) How has this issue impacted on communities?
There is a huge impact of factor on the community of the country which is due to Covid-19, there
were a lot of people who lost their jobs. Environment improved since the industries where shut
down as well. Human rights were violated which made the people very unsatisfied (Chester
and et.al., 2017). Loans and taxes were not being able to be paid well and on
time.
b) How have communities created community development opportunities/ responses to address
this hot topic?
The people understood each others situation which raised in the country and made their own
decisions accordingly. Government in the country also understood the people well and made sure
that there are right actions which are being taken for them so that there is going to be higher
development which is going to be there.

7. You have been tasked with developing a community garden project in a local community.
You need to engage students from the local primary school, community members and residents
from the retirement village.
a) How might you go about getting financial resources to make this project successful? Where will
you some funding/ money from? What activities might you undertake to fundraiser? Describe 4
activities you would do.
1. Crowdfunding is another way which can be considered in order to be able to find success in
making sure that the garden is being able to find success.
2. There are going to be volunteers and other environment community and groups which are going
to be involved so that the right economic fund can be raised in order to be able to achieve the
objectives and goals.
3. Creating custom T-Shirt is one of the fund raising factor which is going to be used to be able to
create the garden.
4. Can be linked to a school for primary kids so that there are parents who would like to volunteer
for the benefit for their children as well.
b) how might you engage the school and wider community to “buy” into the project? What
activities might you do to encourage participation in the project? Describe 4 actions?
1. The project must be explained in a very attractive method so that there is going to be effective
engagement which is present.
2. Communicate the benefits of this project must be present so that the engagement is better.
3. Rewards have to be provided to the community and children like certificates and money factor for
the society.
4. Interactive factors have to be present for being able to get in higher engagement.
c) how might you engage older residents in this project? Describe 4 actions?
1. Safety measures have to be taken strictly and communicated well.
2. The working environment for the elderly people must be enjoyable so that they get engaged
easily.
3. Roles and responsibilities have to be well distributed.
4. Communication of the benefits and goals have to be present for the people so that there is good
engagement.
d) What practical measures would you put in place to manage and track funding and assets used
within the project?
It is important to track the funds which are being used in the company so that there is going to be
higher operations (Latham and Williams, 2020). Track of the work is also important and funds have
to be used well since this is a voluntary work in which people need transparency therefore tracking

is essential. Policies have to be followed in order to be able to get in right working in the community
so that there is going to be higher operations.
8. Write a paragraph on each term and describe what;
a) asset based community development approaches are. Use a real world example to demonstrate
your understanding?
Set agendas which must to be present in the community so that there is going to be effective
working and the long term value is also going to be present in the community as well. Equality and
justice is the right for all the individuals who are present in the society which have to be provided
this factor.
b) Rights based community development approaches are. Use a real world example to
demonstrate your understanding?
There are a lot of non-governmental organisations and agencies which are promoting the
community development approaches which is going to be a great factor for the society to have as
well. Power relation development has to be present so that there is going to be higher operations.
9. Write a paragraph on each term and give an example to demonstrate your description. Include
in your description how each example can be used in community development practice?
a) What is qualitative data?
There is a lot of theory and data which has to be collected and new ideas and
methods can also generate from this factor which is going to be a great factor
for the overall development (Lebcir and et.al., 2017). Interviews, story collecting
and other methods are going to be used to be able to have qualitative data
collection which is beneficial for the overall working.
b) What is quantitative data?
Quantitative data is going to include a lot of data which is numerical so that there is going to be
higher and better understanding which is accurate.

10. Write down 4 activities/methods you could use/implement to encourage participation/sharing
of ideas/information and community cooperation in a new community based project?
Use the example in question 7 to provide a guiding example.
1. There the several ways through which individuals can be encourages for increasing their
engagement in the social activities, which include factors like social gathering and cultural
activities. Through this methods intercultural corporation will be increased and individuals
will be encouraged to showcase their creative ideas and efforts for goal achievement.
2. The T-shirt competition is also an effective way for achieving corporation within the culture
and which include team work spirit due to which communication within the community also
tend to increase. Through this participation can be increased and thus ideas for a new
community based project can be achieved.
3. For new community based projects it will be highly effective when the developments are
made by integrating the facilities to the elderly of the society and by developing cultural
working as per then high engagement can be achieved.
11.Write a paragraph describing what is meant by the term deviance in the context of social
change? To explain your answer of how social deviance has resulted in social change, include 2
examples from history.1
Deviance is actions and behaviour of individuals which are present so that there is going to be no
violation of work in the society. Murder cases, assault, violations, social norms, and theft are few
examples of deviance. Deviance is made sure that the people are not doing wrong and can have a
clarity of living in the society as well.
1. Catherine Birnie, rape and murder of four women in Perth in 1986. Birnies was fifth intended
victim who escaped but was abducted at knifepoint.
2. Gregory Brazel, shot dead a woman in 1982 armed robbery, and murdered two sex workers in

3. Peasant's revolt- The London Tower was at risk and safety was in danger which was a great factor
to be understood so that there are right actions which can be taken.
