Sociology and Community Development Theory Assessment. Task 2
Please include a Bibliography/ Reference List at the end of your assessment task for
refences used.
It is expected that you will give well constructed responses to each section of this
document and follow the instructions for each question.
If you are asked to write a paragraph - it means that you need to write a paragraph.
1. Write a paragraph on each term, explaining the meaning of both terms and explain why you
understanding these terms when working in the community. Please use at least one academic
reference to support your answers. Look back over theory covered in classes.
Sociology: Sociology refers study in which people learn ways of understanding human behaviours and
society perceptions. It is useful in societies because with sociology, people learn and gain knowledge
about different race, gender and backgrounds. So, overall it can be said that sociology study can help
society members in understanding social and cultural aspects (Burrell, 2017).
Socialisation theory: Sociology is a process learning about ways of behaving in a manner that can be accepted
in the society. This theory in business or adjustment process can make individuals able in assuming
organisational roles that can fit to both organisations and individuals needs (Nason, Mazzelli and Carney,
2019).
2. Write a paragraph on each term, to explain your understanding of each perspective in your
own words. Visit the sociological perspectives we discussed in class and use these materials
to assist you.
Symbolic interaction ism: It is a sociological theory that mainly focuses on relationship among people within
an environment and society. In societies where people with different background and culture live, helps them
in knowing that how people create meanings and respond to word design.
Functionalism: It is a theory of all about the nature of mental state. It helps society members in knowing
reasons as why people are reacting like this and by knowing this, they can motivate and take actions
accordingly (Combs and et.al., 2020).
Conflict theory: This theory in societies focus on the competition and politics among people over limited
resources or different perceptions. It can help in maintaining inequality by providing appropriate solutions

Identity theory: This theory refers views of people on the relationship between mind and
body. This theory believes that some types of factors of mental states are contingent fact.
Social identity theory: It is people's sense or understanding that who they are in a group. In
this theory, individuals feel to a group and view themselves as an effective or responsible

member of a group (Scheepers and Ellemers, 2019). It helps society members in knowing each
others and living collaboratively.
4. Look around your community/region. Look at how organisations/groups have developed
resources that build sustainability into their projects/activities. Your answer should use a real
world example for both.
a) Find a real world example of an organisation/group that practices environmental sustainability
in their programs/ activities/ projects.
British overseas banks is a real example for an organisation who is taking environmental
sustainability into consideration so that there is going to be effective growth that is going to be
present. Environmental sustainability are factors which have to be present within a community so
that there are going to be higher performance for human kind for a long run.
b) Find a real world example of an organisation/group that practices socioeconomic sustainability
that benefits that community/ group over time.
Bestway is a real world example for socioeconomic sustainability that the community is having so
that the business would be able to grow effectively in the market. From the community the money
goes to the societies benefit which is going to make the stability and growth be present.
Act organic growers is making sure that there are actions which are being taken by the community
which is beneficial for the overall growth which is going to be present. Organic plants items is
beneficial for the society as well.
5. List FIVE important socioeconomic factors that can contribute to disadvantage in our
community. Then write a paragraph describing how (if at all) they impact on each other and
impact on the socioeconomic disadvantage of communities.
1. Heath- There is going to be low health factor in the society which is going to make a huge
impact on the overall working of the society.
2. Racism- There is going to be more racism which is going to take place in the society which is
not a very positive environment for the workers and the society as well to be able to develop.
