INTRODUCTION
Food safety management is a technique by which safety of food is ensured. It is a certified
act which makes sure that manufacturing of food is good which is clean and hygienic. Food
safety and hygiene is currently in demand in food industry. Therefore, the entrepreneurs and
restaurants that offer food services need to make sure that they provide proper and hazardless
food services in order to sustain the competitive advantage of market. This report is in the
context of Whitbread which is a British multinational hotel and restaurant headquartered in
Bedfordshire, UK. It was founded in 1742 and became the largest brewery by 1780s. This report
s going to focus on the examination of various food supply chain approaches and the principles
of effective procurement for a food service operations. It includes the assessment of the
application of various analytical techniques in order to support effective management strategies.
Moreover, evaluates the various management practices to support the successful business
operations in food services. Discussion is also done for the ethical practices and also provides the
recommendation in order to improve the performance.

P1. Examine a range of different food supply chain approaches within the food service industry
Food supply chain is an approach which is useful in determining the efficiency and
effectiveness in order to attract more and more customers at their restaurant. This industry offers
various food services and activities which ensures the quality and effectiveness of offered food
product to their respective customers (Ovca and et. al., 2018). In addition to this, it is useful in
finding out the food preparation process with appropriate quality and maintenance of food
standards. For, Whitbread it s essential for them to have appropriate and effective supply chain
which is helpful in providing qualitative food services to their potential customers. In this
industry, quality, hygiene and clean is the primary factors which is helpful in gaining the
competitive edge of business environment. There are various approaches which is helpful in
availing the food services industry and some of them are discussed below:
Fine Dining: It is very effective and efficient manner of serving food to their potential
customers. For this, Whitbread offer different kinds of menu which involve various food items
which are related to Chinese, Mexican and Italian. In the context of this report, fine dining is

most appropriate as it helps in attracting more customers and creates profitability and
sustainability in the market of UK because they offer good quality services for their potential
customers. It explains the whole menu without any notes and the staff as well. The employees of
Whitbread are well trained and experienced which helps in providing better and satisfactory food
services to their respective customer base. Various mannered services in fine dining involve
holding the chair for women and escorting patrons to the restroom.
Pop up Food Services: It is a type of temporary food services which can be operate from
anywhere such as home, factory restaurant and many more (Panghal and et. al., 2018). These are
the food services which is offered by restaurants during the time of occasions and customers also
enjoy these services as they offer something innovative and new in the market which is unusual
from their regular food. The good part of this service is that they can be open and close at
anytime and anywhere. In the context of Whitbread, it provide various kinds of food to its
customers and also provide this service for those customers who cannot come at their restaurant
like food truck as it helps in providing new opportunities for their chef to show their talent in the
food industry and helps in developing the customer base.
Conference and Events: Food and service industry plays a crucial role in the events and
conferences in order to provide services to their respective customers as it helps in building their
image in front of the world. These events are organised by the hotels and restaurants and also
managed by the event management companies which is helpful in addressing the best services
provided to their potential customers. Despite of this, in conferences event supply chain
management is helpful in timely arrival of food and services and also ensure about the pickups
and delivery of food products on time. The supply chain also allows the event manager to take
follow up of the orders and price in a well defined way.
Theme Food Service: Theme food services are those kind of services which depends o
the needs, demand, choice and preferences of their respective customers. This service is become
most common in the world as many restaurants and food offered industries provide tailor made
and specific products at their outlets which is helpful in attracting more and more customers on
the basis of theme. Moreover, it is analysed that restaurants who offer theme services on the
demand of their customers are earning more and more profit as compared to their competitors.
Therefore, Whitbread also offer theme products on the requirement of their respective customers.
