INTRODUCTION
The occupational health in the UK deals with several elements of the health and safety in
the setting. It is understood that the health and safety is an essential aspect for the human.
The major focus of health and safety in the setting is to provide the adequate working
environment to the workers so that they could attain the higher level of social, physical, and
mental wellbeing.
The focus of this study is to assess the effectiveness of the policies and procedures in the
health and social care settings. It is evaluated that the working practitioners and the users in
the setting are influenced by the legislation that is applied in health and social care
(Sherwood and Barnsteiner, 2017). The effectiveness of the policies such as manual
Handling safety, COSHH, and RIDDOR is assessed for monitoring and reviewing the health
condition of the users.

TASK 1
1.1 Review systems, policies and procedures, which the new director
implemented, to ensure that information on health and safety is
properly communicated in accordance with legislative requirements
The policies regarding the health and safety are developed by the health and social care
setting in order to safeguard and protect the people who are associated with the setting. It
is evaluated that the register management activities in the Fleetwood Care Home are
helpful in safeguarding the health of the employee. Thus, the setting needs to follow
different policies such as Care standards, Manual Handling, RIDDOR, COSHH, etc. The most
effective policies in the Fleetwood Hall Home would be COSHH and RIDDOR.
The Fleetwood hall Home is a wide expanded home care that has developed their grounds
on the basis of appropriate policies and procedures. The current system needs huge
enhancement along with the changes in their accommodation services (Bennett, 2014). The
effectiveness of the policies in the workplace could be assessed as the regulator in the
maintenance of health and safety.
RIDDOR i.e. Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulation 1995 is
considered as the most appropriate policy which is registered in Fleetwood Hall Home. This
policy helps in maintaining the regulations regarding the duties of the employers,
employees, and other people in a controlled manner. It could also be considered as the
occupational way of managing the services. CQC has noticed various incidents in the
Fleetwood Hall Home which raised the significant concern regarding the protection of the
people.
In addition to this, COSHH i.e. Control of Substances Hazardous to Health regulations helps
in attaining information about the regulations for the employers in order to handle the
substances that are hazardous in nature. It would be helpful in assessing the substances
which need to be controlled in order to avoid any harm to the people. The substances which
are lying around in Fleetwood Care Home like plastics, cleaning substances and sprays
should be managed (Crawford, et al. 2017). Hence, the substances which are not moved by

the workers relate with the less awareness about the danger through chemicals. So, it is
essential to manage the chemicals effectively.
Communication is considered the most appropriate method for explaining required
messages to other. It could be conducted through the mutual understanding with semiotic
and signs rules. There are various communication channels such as verbal, written, and
graphical.

The verbal communication is conducted when the simple message is sent through the
spoken language between the sender and receiver. This kind of communication is used in
the Fleetwood Hall Home for reporting about the accidents, conducting training, word of
mouth, and appraising other.
In written communication, the message is conveyed by utilizing the letters, complaint boxes,
and emails in a written manner. The complaint procedures in the Fleetwood Hall Homecare
are conducted for attaining the solution for the issues and complaints that occurred at the
workplace (Goetsch and Davis, 2014). The effective communication in the workplace is
helpful in handling any kind of risk or accidents at the workplace. Thus, it is essential to
develop a suitable risk assessment plan in the setting.
