It covers leadership and management theories, the impact of performance management, development of effective teams, and the role of healthcare professionals. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Healthcare and social care are two primary care
services, cumulatively that helps to provide the service
users with holistic care. There are several disciplines
that relates social care and healthcare and these are:
biology, sociology, nutrition and ethics. This
presentation provides different theories, management,
and challenges associated with it. Further, different
motivational theory in social care sector and their ability
in impacting employees has been mentioned. Further,
the role of healthcare professionals in developing the
health and social care integration need has been
mentioned in the presentation.

INTRODUCTION
 The term health and social care comprises of
entire public and private healthcare and
social care organisations , under which care
is being provided to the service users
(Dickinson and O'Flynn 2016).
 This comprehensive study is inclusive of
biology, sociology, nutrition, law and ethics.
 The aim of these services are maintaining
quality of care, providing accurate
interventions and deliver safe and secured
care.

THEORIES OF LEADERSHIP AND
MANAGEMENT
 Great man theory
Believes on the potential of individual
 Trait theory
Trusts the leadership traits of specific individual
 Contingency theory
Depends on the behaviour of the leader on different
situation (Amanchukwu, Stanley and Ololube 2015)
 Transformational theory
believes in reward and punishment depending on
performance
 Transactional theory
Believes in the team work for the development of the
entire team (Dartey-Baah 2015)

CHALLENGES OF THESE
THEORIES
 Quality and safety of the care process is a big
challenge to healthcare and social care.
 Increased patient dissatisfaction is the
another challenge and prioritizes patient
satisfaction as sole goal.
 Lack of proper trained and skilled staff is
another challenge for leadership.
 Rapid and extensive reforms in healthcare
are another challenge for the leadership and
management as these theories are modifying
everyday (Amanchukwu, Stanley and Ololube
2015).

MOTIVATION THEORIES IN

 There are mainly two primary theories in
motivation such as content and process
motivation theories.
 These two primal theories can further be
classified as: Maslow’s needs hierarchy theory,
McClelland’s achievement motivation theory
for content motivation theory and under
process motivation theory, Adam’s equity
theory and Locke’s goal setting theory
(D'Souza and Gurin 2016).
 This theory affects all aspects of life
influencing both the spiritual and
transcendental development.

INFLUENCING FACTOR ON
MOTIVATION
 The factors influencing the motivation of the employees are:
 wages or salaries
 Job description
 Work environment
 professional growth factors
 incentives and bonus
 security and confidentiality (Kanfer, Frese and Johnson
2017)

IMPACT OF PERFORMANCE
MANAGEMENT
 Performance based management has an extreme
impact on the organization with the aim of
improving the organizational effectiveness.
 Motivation of the employees plays a pivotal role
in the performance of the working ability of the
employees and the organization.
 Performance management depends on the e-
budgeting, planning of the organization,
advancement of the organization and the
employees of the organization.
 It further enhances the information gathering
process and data analysis ability of the
organization (Dickinson and O'Flynn 2016).

DEVELOPMENT AND
EFFECTIVENESS OF TEAMS
 Quality and effectiveness of the work can be
achieved with the help of effective team members
 They work with a specific goal in an effective and
efficient way with the other members within
organization.
 The building of team enhances the
interrelationship between different cultures with
trust among each other (Amanchukwu, Stanley
and Ololube 2015).
 Development of team is required as it encourages
employees to work independently with each
member having equal division of work and
responsibility

ROLE OF HEALTHCARE FACILITIES
AND PROFESSIONALS IN MEDICAL
SECTOR
 The primary role of healthcare practitioner
should enhance beyond the routine tasks of
medical check-ups.
 They should develop effective
communication between healthcare
professionals and patients so that quality an
safety in the care could be involved.
 They should be able to treat all the ailment
physical and mental so that holistic care
could be imposed (Dickinson and O'Flynn
2016).

ROLES OF TEAM IN DEVELOPING
HEALTH AND SOCIAL SECTOR
 Teamwork is an important factor in health
and social care because, working in teams in
such facilities promotes teamwork with
enhanced collaboration and communication.
 It directly benefits the patients and/or service
users associated with it.
 Team work imparts cultural conductivity,
empowers new and untrained employees,
spreads equality among workers and outlines
the responsibility for everyone (Dickinson
and O'Flynn 2016).

CONCLUSION
 Through this discussion, role of motivation,
leadership and management in maintaining
quality and safety of healthcare were
mentioned.
 Motivation and leadership could impart the
professionals with confidence, courage and
self-esteemed and using these they could
develop their working skills and strategies.
