Directions: Please provide responses to the two sections below. The expectation is that each
response is from 1-2 pages in length (not including the information already present in this
document which is approximately 1 page). You are expected to support your assertions, ideas,
or opinions with at least two scholarly or professional resources where appropriate using current
APA style and formatting.
Section I: Leadership and Collaboration Experience
Briefly describe an instance where you were required to lead and motivate a team of
professionals to collaborate. It does not need to be in a health care setting. If you have not lead
a team of professionals before, use a different example.
Next, analyze your approach to the challenge using specific examples. It is not important
whether or not your efforts were successful. What is important is the approach you take to
appraising your leadership and collaboration decisions and actions. Do the following:
1. Analyze your leadership of the project. Consider the following:
What was the purpose or shared vision of the team?
The effectiveness of your leadership approach and style. Did you get “buy in”
from stakeholders?
Decision making processes and outcomes? What were your good decisions?
What would you have done differently?
How did you communication your vision, values, decisions, information, et
cetera?
2. Analyze your approach to fostering collaboration and motivation among stakeholders.
Consider:
How well you facilitated member or participant collaboration and engagement
with one another. Did participants communicate effectively?
Actions you took to motivate people to realize your vision or tactics. Did the team
or participants feel motivated and energized by you? Why or why not?
Response to question 1.
As a nursing manager working in the Data-Driven Approach to Lower Length of Stay and
Improve Care Coordination project, my and the purpose of the project tem is to analyze the
various factors that are related to the burnout and other psychosocial barriers that makes long
hours and long lengths of the hospital stay more adverse for the nurses and it is important that
the length of stay of the nurses in their respective departments are reduced and the various
types of interventions plus the various types of strategies supported by data and driven by the

data, is undertaken on a pertinent basis (Stone & Fitzpatrick 2019). The shared vision of the
team is to take interpersonal risks, build empathy towards each other and work towards a more
positive workplace environment along with the better collaboration with a more trustworthy
approach towards the patient, thus contributing towards a more centric and effective patient
centred care. The shared vision is to understand and develop a proper organisational and
nursing team culture towards a more pertinent and imperative plus empowering nursing care
approach that satisfies both the patient and also contributes to the quality standards of the
delivered health care service and lastly but not the least, helps in working together,
collaboratively to reduce the long working hours of the nurses in hospitals (Giddens 2018).
As a nursing manager, it is very important to use and apply the right leadership
style to empower and improve the actions of the nurses in my team, pertaining to their functions
that is respective functions and roles in the respective departments. I used a transformational
leadership style in the clinical framework owing to the attributes and the skills that I possess as
a person and a professional and in order to reach and achieve a broader spectrum of
consensus amongst the stakeholders involved in the clinical care process or the patient
centered care process – the stakeholder buy in strategy was applied. The enrolled nurses, the
nursing assistants, the registered nurses as well as the operations manager, the administrators
were included in the very joint decision making process involved in the planning and strategizing
of the very clinical flow and the process involved with the controlling of clinical therapeutic time
management, targeted at lowering the rate of the long hours being spent by the nurses in the
hospitals and this has resulted in more burnout and mental issues as well as physical issues in
the nurses. Hence, the stakeholder buy in was used to receive an opinion from each
professional in order to undertake and run through the processes of the data driven project
(Dyess, Sherman & Chiang-Hanisko 2016).
Decision making processes were critical and many of the stakeholders such as the
nurses of different levels when they participated, gave new ideas and proposed their opinion so
as to how to manage the long working hour situations and the prevention of burnout in the
nursing and supportive staffs. The outcome was positive and the a better data driven process
was then formulated based on the feedback of all the stakeholders involved in the shared
decision making process and the shared roles in the effective caring of the patients in a patient
centered care framework (Giddens 2018). The good decisions that I took at times would be to
resolute the conflicts juxtaposed between the different opinions, proposed by the different
stakeholders in the decision making process. I struggled at times with the conflict resolution
though, given my problem solving skills that still needs work (Reinke, Hendricksen & Lynn
2018). Alternatively to avoid that amount of conflict, I could have created a scenario where each
stakeholder would have given their ideas in a closed one-to –one format and not in an open
discussion format.
The vision, values, decisions and the information that I possess as a nursing leader
would be communicated to the other members of the team and department and it is very
important that the reminders, meetings, handout and the electronic reminders are used to
handle and manage the communication process. I will be communicating my ideas in addition to
the vision, values, decisions and the information will be communicated via seminars and I will
also be using the workshops that I will plan along with other administrators in order to promote
learning and self-awareness along with skills of the person pertaining to the reduction of long
working hours of the nurses in the hospitals and the nursing homes. The pamphlets and the
posters (paper and digital) are the other modes of communication. Including the vision, values,
decisions and the information in the training module of the health care company would also lead
to better communication of ideas, thus embedding the same in the framework of stakeholder’s
learning and training.
