Influence of Toxic Media on Lifestyle

This Health Psychology dissertation chapter focuses on methodology for a study titled "The influence of toxic environment on lifestyle choices". The research aims to determine the extent to which media depictions of harmful behaviors influence individuals, particularly concerning alcohol consumption. DISSERTATION CHAPTER: METHODOLOGY
Purpose of the research
The current investigation is based on a chosen title, which is “The influence of toxic
environment on lifestyle choices”. Herein, the term toxic environment is representing media
and its depicted world, in whose accordance, detrimental behaviours are amusing and free of
danger. However, such portrayal largely differs from that to the real-life picture where
consumption of toxic substances like alcohol, etc., are extremely injurious to health (Media
influence on teenagers, 2017). Considering this, the current research work is thereby aimed to
ascertain the extent to which such external cues tends to influence on an individual’s
behaviour. At last, the association among such type of messages with that to its hoax of
driving the desire of consuming alcohol in the individuals has been referred to be a primary
objective of this study.
Ethical consideration
This is in context to the ethical consideration of the investigator while carrying out
this study where the participants respondents should not be forced to contribute in the
research and should instead make a willing input (Graham, Powell and Taylor, 2015). Also,
any of their personal information should not be accessed by any unauthorised user and the
researcher should together make a considerate use of any such sensitive information.
Research design
This being one of the most important part of methodologies that in turn reflect as the
blueprint of the entire study (Lewis, 2015). Here, an exploratory design of the research is
stated to be the most appropriate plan that will in turn assist the investigator to discover
newer set of ideas and the ways in which the youths get influenced from such tricky messages
propagated by the media.
METHODOLOGY
Sample
A random sampling will be opted by the researcher to carry out this present
investigation where it will be based on teenagers who are studying in the University of
Bristol (Rossi, Wright and Anderson, 2013). Thence, the students will be randomly chosen to
participate in the survey and contribute their valued responses with assistance of a framed
questionnaire/ survey form. Nearly 50 students will be interrogated to reach to attain the
present research aims and objectives with definite conclusion at the end.

Research methods
The current research work will be based on a qualitative analysis of the findings
acquired after interviewing the participant respondents (Smith, 2015). For this, thematic
approach will be used by the investigator as a leading analytical measure to conclude the
study with relevant outcomes at the end.
