Introduction
This essay is going to describe about the patient care and the partnering of the
healthcare staff with the family of the patient in order to provide them with quality of care. In
this essay there is description of Mr Taylor who is admitted to the hospital for the treatment
of type 2 diabetes. The patient care and partnering in the care process is an important part of
the treatment as that provides them with an equal opportunity for the treatment and also gives
them a say in the treatment. This makes them a part of the treatment process and helps in easy
recovery.
Discussion
Description
When Mr Taylor first came for the treatment process the doctors or the physicians did
not include the treatment of the patient at any level. This can be supported from the fact that
the doctor did not give the patient with a choice for the treatment process. The doctor directly
assigned the patent with a physiotherapist irrespective of the choice of Mr Taylor. This made
Mr Taylor confused about the entire treatment as he was not a part of the treatment and thus,
he could not express his grievances about the treatment process.
Thus two themes that can be identified from the treatment process of Mr Taylor
includes respecting the needs and demands of the patients and the second one is providing
information, education and communicating with the patient. As per the recent study it was
important that the nurses should give importance on these two themes as they form an
important part of the treatment (Tobiano et al., 2016). It has been observed that respecting the
views of the patient and their family members can improve the involvement of the patient as
well as the enhancement of the patient outcome.

The next theme was communicating with the patient that can act as a powerful tool in
the analysis of the needs and demands of the patients. It is important that the patient is
communicating well with the nurses and the other healthcare professionals for the treatment
and also to responds to it. This will impact the way in which the treatment process is
perceived by the patients (Farrell, Payne & Heye, 2015).
Feelings
As a nurse I think that the kind of treatment and behavior received by Mr Taylor is
not at par with the nursing profession. In this case, there was lack of proper communication
and attention to the patient. These aspects should be reviewed by the healthcare staff as they
form the pillar for a successful patient centered approach (Tobiano et al., 2016). As a nurse I
feel that it is important that the patient is given utmost importance in terms of treatment and
clinical decision making. There should be proper access to the treatment process and the
patient should get full attention of the nurses as well as the allied healthcare professionals.
Values
According to my values and beliefs it is the duty of the nurses to provide quality care
and treatment to the patient. These values have originated from the nursing standards and the
Quality Health Service Standard that defines certain rules and standards for the treatment of
the patient. Thus, my feelings are a result of these values that originate from the standards of
nursing. As per my values and beliefs it is important to partner with the patient or the
consumer while delivering care or defining the standards of care. Thus, I strongly feel that in
order to provide the patient with high quality of care it is necessary to partner with them as
that can help the nurses to know the requirements and also to react accordingly.
