Effective leadership need cutting-edge skills and knowledge to address such challenges. This
essay aims to provide an understanding of leadership and respect for people in the context of
health management and leadership. The essay covers the concept of respect for individual and
its importance within healthcare leadership. Later, the leadership behaviour or quality needed
to depict respect for individual with contextual elements that influence the leadership in
healthcare will be discussed within the essay. Finally, the relationship between respect for the
individual, organizational performance and culture will also be covered.
Background information about the topic
The leadership in health management is covered to offer a better understanding of the ways
healthcare enterprise work and essential job of the medical employee within it. Such
improved understanding offers the opportunity to be more effective in managing and
initiating quality changes. Effective leadership becomes crucial to deliver good health
services, where good leader require administrative skill and knowledge to be effective (West,
2015). The crucial challenges facing every Australian Hospital and healthcare Associations is
to embrace the culture that confirms the delivery of consistently developing high quality,
compassionate and safe healthcare. In the context of healthcare, leadership is a significant,
influential element in shaping corporate culture and confirming the importance of leadership
strategies, qualities and behaviours are improved are fundamental. Smith et al., (2018) added
that leadership work is to confirm the commitment, alignment and direction within

organization or teams. In addition, effective leader in healthcare services stresses consistently
on high quality, safe and compassionate care as their top priorities.
Discussion
What does 'respect for people' mean in the context of health care leadership?
The broadly known dimension of patient-centred care is emotional support and respect. The
projected national quality and safety structure involve several strategies for offering care that
is respectful and responsive to the values or requirement of consumers or patients. In
Australia, the patient-centred method is encouraged by the Australian Charter of Healthcare
Rights, National Quality and Safety Framework and other country service standards
(Delaney, 2018). A respectful attitude is an active choice one can make on a routine basis,
where disrespectful behaviours often interfere with offering effective patient care. Flickinger
et al., (2016) argued that the substantial obstruction to growing in the patient safety relates to
the dysfunctional culture embedded in widespread disrespect involving humiliating,
disruptive behaviour, demeaning treatment towards residents, nurses and students along with
passive-aggressive attitude. These attitudes are a threat to the safety of the patient, and the
healthcare organization of Australia requires depicting adequate effort to replace such
negative attitudes with a respectful and positive attitude. Fry et al., (2017) supported that
respect is an important element of high performance corporate and helpful to build a healthy
atmosphere, where patients experience cared for as person and healthcare team members are
collaborative, committed and engaged to service. In the culture of respect, individual noted to
deliver better in a more innovative way and depict huge resilience. On the other hand, the
absence of the respect undermines teamwork and stifles individual performance. It may often
