Heritage and cultural tourism deals with providing travel experience of various heritage
places that positively influence one's belief and values (Alberti and Giusti, 2012). There are
various purposes that are associated with travelling. It not only serves leisure with fun and
recreational activities but also have educational purpose too. This report is based on heritage and
cultural tourism management present in United Kingdom and various industries that operate in
this sector. Assignment will consist of understanding growth and development of tourism
industry along with their purposes. Further various roles and responsibilities of organisations that
are associated with tourism sector will be analysed. Lastly study of various methods used for
interpretation in heritage and cultural tourism will be made that will successfully conclude this
assignment.

Tourism industry require political, social, economical and ecological perspective that will
aid in delivering positive force to conserve resources that are associated with culture and
heritage. According case study given for this assignment revolves around preservation of
heritage and cultural properties in Lhasa. Tibet is largest tourism destination that consist of
fabulous monasteries and outstanding architecture. Lhasa, capital of Tibet encounters large
number of visitors every year, that are almost 10 million in numbers (Ashworth and Larkham,
2013). Mainly religious people or journalists in search of history visit this city. By recognising
importance of tourist spot, Chinese government has now started funding to outcast location that
will generate revenue for country. Some new projects have been introduced to renovate city and
monuments. New theme park will be constructed on outskirts of city with an investment of $4.5
billion. In addition, government has taken initiative in providing hospitality by establishing
Resort Lhasa Paradise which will be largest luxury hotel with around 1100 rooms.
Initiatives taken by government has created conflicts and disputes in local community.
They are protesting against Chinese government on a subject of London based free Tibet. This
issue can influence renovation of Lhasa and will cast a strong effect on heritage and cultural site.
Main reason for conflict is hampering of cultural property because of visitors. Also, globalization
can be another cause for influencing local community. Furthermore, local people have initiated
this campaign with a purpose of boycotting development and renovation of Lhasa. As they
believe that these activities are destroying cultural sites. Renovation will cause demolishing of
natural sites. Chinese government along with foreign agency will destroy tradition and custom of
Lhasa that have been practising for thousand of years (Boukas, Ziakas and Boustras, 2013).
