Assignment on How Do Air Powered Motors Work?_1
How Air motor works
An air motor is a device which assist in converting the air into energy after compressing it. Air
motors enhance the safety, dependable power of air which is compressed to cause rotational
motion. Air motor has numerous designs to support a wide variety of applications. Constant
rotary power from a compressed air system is produced by air motors, therefore, enabling it to
boost several advantages over electric motors.
Air motors can be used as volatile atmospheres since electrical power is not required.
The smaller air motors can produce a similar power as electric motors because their
power density is higher generally.
Air motors do not require auxiliary speed reducers to function while this is not the case in
electric motors.
The circuit breakers in electric motors can be tripped by overloads while in air motors,
there is no harm caused by overloads that exceed stall torque.
Controlling the speed of electric motors is complicated but in air motors, you only need
simple flow-control valves.
Electric motors require overload protection, magnetic motors which is not the case in air
motors.
The amount of heat produced by electric motors are always high compared to that of air
motors.
Regulating pressure simply very air motor torque.
The air motors can be used in different settings and areas and this is due to their adaptability and
flexibility, and the air motor can be divided into two separate parts which include;
The pneumatic part which permits the motor to deal with the compression of air.
The gear section which allows adjustment of torque and speed to application requirement.
The cylinder is found in the pneumatic part and it comprises an eccentric rotor whose both ends
are sealed through flanges. Due to centrifugal force, the pressing of valves alongside the stator
inner surface occurs when the rotor starts rotating, the space separates the chambers into two
different comprising dissimilar amount of air. Air gets into the compression chamber when the
blowing of 4 to 6 bar pressurized air is done inside the pneumatic motor (Albert, 2015, p. 45).

The walls of different surfaces experiences dissimilar forces therefore, the rotation of the rotor
will cause an increase in the volume of the compression chamber thus allowing air to expand,
this process continues to tolerate the continuing spinning of the rotor. The spinning motion then
turns the chamber into an exhaust state, freeing the air from the motor. The operation of motor
results from this succession of pressurization (Beaumont, 2014, p. 129).
Techniques and processes of Manufacturing
Manufacturing Processes:
Air Motor Base:
The manufacturing of the component mentioned above is done by water jet cutter and this
particular process entails drawing which is done through CAD model. This component is made
using the material known as Bright Drawn Mild Steel (BDMS). The CAD model provides the
measurements which guides the jet cutter during the operation, and the drilling machine is used
in making holes in this part of air motor (Dashchenko, 2008, p. 318).

Air Motor Upright:
The process of manufacturing Air Motor Upright is similar to that of air Motor Base since the
manufacturing process requires water jet cutter, as well as, CAD model. The drilling device is
used in making holes in this component and Bright Drawn Mild Steel is the material needed
during the manufacturing process. CAD model provides measurements which is used by the
water jet during the operations (Davenport, 2012, p. 221).
Air Motor Flywheel:
The component mentioned above is made to help in storing energy required for spinning, and it
resists alterations in rotational speed by their moment of inertia. Increasing or decreasing the
speed of rotation helps flywheel to store energy without altering its mass, and its efficiency is
determined by the maximum amount of energy it can store per unit weight. The manufacturing of
flywheel requires CNC lather machine, and this particular process also involves the use CAD
