India), Indiaā
Chapter 1: Introduction
Tourism is being considered as one of the most influential and rapidly increasing
business sector that led whole country to face positive impact upon overall performance level
upon economic conditions. Along with this, it can be said that travel and tourism business sector
has helped countries in improving their GDP rate as well. Kerala, is a state in India, at tropical
Malabar Coast of South Western India (Kapur, 2016). In present time, if it is talked about Kerala
than, it could be considered as one of the most popular tourist destination within the country.
Basically, Kerala is called ten paradises of the world by National Geographic Traveller and it is
famous especially for its ecotourism initiatives and beautiful backwaters. Its unique culture and
traditions, coupled with its varied demography, have made Kerala one of the most popular tourist
destinations in the world.
1.1 Background of research
In developing countries like India, tourism is considered as the fastest growing sector that
contributes to a large proportion to economic development, increasing GDP and employment
opportunities. It is being analysed that, growing rate of the tourism industry of Kerala is
approximately to 13.31% and his could be considered as one of the major contributor that can be
seen within the state's economy in all over India (Pavesi, Denizci Guillet and Law, 2017). Along
with this, it is being found that Kerala could be considered as established destination for both
domestic as well as foreign tourists. Still somewhere, tourism section within Kerala is lacking
due to different reasons like their natural disasters, culture, society and many more. Therefore, it
is much required for this state in India, to focus on planning and strategies as well, which could
help the lost interests of tourists, due to flood and for other reasons as well.

1.3 Rationale of research
Kerala has basically, witnessed 10.94 percent increase within 2017, if it is specifically
compared with former years. It was being analysed that, 1.91 million foreign travellers along
with 14.6 million tourists (domestic) has visited within the state. Due to flood, it has faced 4 to 5
percent decline in month of 2017, where busiest airport within Kochi was being shut since
August 16, which got reopen on the August 29, 2017 (Suneera and Joseph, 2017). It has
impacted negatively upon overall tourists' mindset in regards to visiting Kerala. It became very
much required for state government to improve the negativity, which was spreading all across
the world about the flood and this directly affected or impacted upon tourism sector. This is the
basic reason behind why investigator has chosen this topic as it will directly help researchers in
looking into the perspectives of that why tourism sector got declined.
1.4 Research objectives and questions
Research Objectives
ļ· To analyse the ways through which, tourists can get attracted towards a tourist
destination.
ļ· To identify the benefits that Kerala economy can find of improving travel and tourism
industry.
ļ· To study the reason behind decline among tour and travel business industry of Kerala.
Research Questions
ļ· What are the ways through which, tourists can get attracted towards a tourist destination ?
ļ· What could be considered as the benefits that Kerala economy can find of improving
travel and tourism industry ?
ļ· Evaluate the main reason behind decline among tour and travel business industry of
Kerala ?

Research-methodology
Research methodology is being characterised as an important factor in a research, usually
it allow the researcher to take corrective action on a particular topic, which results in fruitful as
as well as beneficial results while conducting an investigation. Basically, there are two types of
investigation like qualitative and quantitative that are being done by the researcher, which helps
in pulling out favourable outcomes in specified time frame.
Type of Investigation
For getting best outcome the key role of researcher is to do pilot testing, which may allow
investigator in conducting the quality investigation in a scheduled time slot. Categories of
investigation, is been classified as qualitative, quantitative and mixed methodological tools. In
present scenario, researcher are using mixed methodological technique, which will grab right
information for the topic which will show ways through Kerala tourism can be improvised.
There are two types of research sources used by researcher that is primary research and
secondary research. These two types of researches are explained below:
Primary research
These researches are basically first hand researches. It is conducted by researcher directly
for the first time. Primary research can be defined as a methodology used by researchers to
collect data directly, rather than depending on data that is already collected or using data from
previously done researches. It is technically 'own' data of researcher. The primary data is been
collected from internal sources like questionnaire, feedback forms, interviews, the date which is
stored previously in the organisation/company data bank. Data collected from these researches
are from in depth interviews, surveys, questionnaires, focus groups or visits to different location.
Data collected in primary research are unique and full fill specific needs (DEVIKA, 2019).
Secondary research
This type of research are done by secondary sources or already existing materials.
Secondary research is when researcher use previously completed studies and apply it to get their
own result to a particular situation or study. The data is been collected through external sources
like newspapers, journals, publishers etc. To conduct these types of researches, researcher use
textbooks, news, articles, internet, business documents and journals, government data etc. in this
information is already available and researcher use these data to conduct research. It involves

Research Approach
Research approach is a plan and procedure that consists of the steps of broad assumptions
to detailed method of data collection, analysis and interpretation. It is therefore, based on the
nature of the research problem being addressed. The approaches varies from inductive, deductive
and many other. Basically for this research, inductive investigating approach is been used that
will help in conducting calculative analysis research with the right facts and figures. In present
context, inductive approach is being utilised that will help, researcher in pulling out favourable
outcomes because, the chosen topic is relying upon the qualitative investigating report and within
this, it will help researcher in conducting a much authentic research.
Data Sampling Tools
It is statistical analysis tools which is used for selecting, analysing, comparing the
numerical figures from a pool of collected data that has been gathered. There are five types of
data sampling tools that can be utilised by the investigator and these are : simple random
sampling, probabilistic sampling, cluster sampling, stratified sampling and systematic sampling.
The researcher in present investigation is going to use random sampling technique and
considered 40 respondents belonging to the tourism industry that are looking forward to go to a
new area.
Research philosophy
These philosophy are approaches that enable to decide which method should be adopted
by researchers. Research philosophy refers to a beliefs and assumptions about development of
knowledge. This is helpful in developing and designing research to get knowledge of a particular
study. It is precisely understanding what individual is doing when embarking on research. It
consist of developing in-depth knowledge in a particular field. Research conducted are bases on
various assumption (Kapur, 2016). These include assumption about human knowledge, realities
encounter, extent and ways of own values. Majorly there are four research philosophies that is
positivism, realism, interpretivism, pragmatism. Positivism approaches to research are based on
research methodologies commonly used in science. Realism research depends upon idea of
independence of reality from human mind. Interpretive researchers assume that access to reality
