INTRODUCTION
Human resource refers to the process of recruiting and selecting the potential candidate
within the organisation so that they can use their skills and capabilities in order to compete a
specific task in an appropriate manner. It is the important department which play vital role in
resourcing the organisation with the capable workforce (Arokiasamy and et. al., 2017).
Morrisons is the chosen organisation for this report, It is fourth largest chain of supermarket in
the United kingdom and its headquarter is in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. This is
founded by William Morrison in 1899 and deals in food and drink, clothing, magazines and
books. This report will cover the purpose and function of human resource and the assessment of
skills to meet the organisational goal. Moreover it is analyse the strength and weakness of
different approaches of recruitment and selection. It will evaluate the different practices of HRM
and the effectiveness in term of raising the organisation.
PART 1
An overview of an organisation.
Morrisons is the top leading company in the retailing industry which is operating their
business across the globe. They are working with 110,000 employees and serve around 11
million customer every week.
Vision
The vision statement of the company is,'' To offer customer a one-stop-shop and give
them more of what they are looking for on a shopping trip”.
Mission
The mission statement of the company is,'' To to utilize the experience and design
innovation in order to provide the responsive solutions to the packaging industry”.
Purpose
The main purpose of the company is to satisfy the needs and wants of their potential
customers as they source and process fresh food for the further sale.
Core Objectives
The six main priorities of Morrisons are as follows:

Popular and useful services

Explain the roles of Human Resource and their functions within the organisations.
Human Resource is the branch of enterprise which is charged to find, screening,
recruiting and providing the training to the job applicants and also organise the programs for the
benefits of their employees (Cleaver, 2017). There are several purpose and functions of the
Human resource department of Morrisons which are explained as below: Recruitment and selection: It is the most important work of the HR department is to
recruit the new candidates to work to attain the common goals of the company. The select
the best candidates to work is major responsible work as the employees are the lifeblood
of the company and finding the best fro the firm is important. They uses different
instruments to hire the candidates those strategies helps in analysing the best out of all. Performance management: The department uses to help their employees to perform
better and justify with their work to the organisation. They defines the responsibilities
which are to cared by the employees. Learning and development: When the employees fails in their performance then the HR
department uses to develop their certain areas in which they are lacking which helps them
in improving their performance. Many companies use to make the budgets for this
learning and development programs as this is helpful in attaining the long run goals. Compensation and benefits: This Department helps in analysing the amount of
compensation and providing other benefits which will be helpful for the firm to motivate
their workforce. The rewards can be monetary or non monetary both. For example:
Morrisons use to provide extra holidays, flexible with working hours, family trips and
other which helps them in motivating their employees.
Human resource planning: the work of the department is to analysis the future needs of
the company such as what kind of employees they are required in future to attain the
organisational goals and how many workforce are required.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of strategies which are used by the company in
order to recruit and select the candidates.
Recruitment and selection:
It means the way in which we hire the new workforce for the company. This can be done in two
ways which helps the firm to heir the best workforce in the company:

Internal Recruitment: This can be possible by transferring the employees from one
place to another or from one department to another. Like Transfer from Sales department
to Purchase department (de Wet, and Odume, 2019). This can also be possible by
promoting the employee from one level to another. Like Assistant manager to the post of
Manager.
Strength:
It helps the company to keep their good workforce in the organisation only.
This requires low cost as the old employees are not majorly require the training.
This is less time consuming.
It limits the pool of applicants. It shorten the On-boarding time as the staff is already working in the organisation.
Weakness:
In this the company only uses it forces and lack from the new hiring.
It creates problem in morale and relations between the other employees.
The conflicts may arise in the organisation which leads to difficulties in performing their
functions (Hamm, 2017).
This reduces the number of potential employees which resulted in missing the fresh ideas. External Recruitment: This can be possible by hiring new candidates in the
organisation.
Strength:
It is beneficial for the company to hire new candidates in order to attain the targets of the
firm.
It helps in providing better qualified workforce in the company. It helps in generating the creative ideas.
Weakness:
It is very time consuming to recruit new candidates.
It is bit expensive for the organisation.
The company has to provide training so that the new workforce can easily perform their
functions.
