Human Resource Management
Introduction
Human resource management is managing of all the activities that are related to Human
resource of an organization that includes training and development, recruitment and selection,
compensation, performance management and human resource policies. HRM is an art of
developing and maintaining competent workforce to attain organizational objectives in an
efficient manner (Mondy & Martocchio, 2016).
The role of human resource management had evolved or changed with the pace of time.
Earlier Human resource management was a humanistic approach that was related to improving
working conditions for the workers than came the era of scientific management where the focus
was on standardization and division of work. In this scientific philosophy, a worker was viewed
as the person driven or influenced by fear of hunger and for the search of profits. In 1920,
another theory came into existence that recognized workers as human beings having emotions,
feelings and needs to satisfy. Slowly the concept of human resource management begins to
transformed and human resource functions expanded to be responsible for various activities
(Dessler, 2015).
In 21st century, the concept of human resource management has evolved and under that
employees are seen as the valuable assets of the organization through that the company can get
competitive advantage (Cascio, 2015). The functions of HR department is not only limited to
management of payroll and functional skills but the role is broaden at present to inducing the
best workforce, recruiting the skilled employees, training them according to the skills required to
perform a job and to analyze the gap through performance appraisal (Johnson & Szamosi,
2018).
The report consists of analyzing the Malaysian Airlines human resource functions and
policies that contributed in the success of organization. The report also provides a deep analysis
on the relation between organization culture and leadership with the formulation of HRM
policies and practices. Furthermore, on the basis of study few recommendations will be given to
improve the HR policies so that they will directly contribute in boosting up the overall
organization performance in future.
