INTRODUCTION
Human resource management refers to the formal system that is designed to manage
personnel within the entity. It is the organisational department which manages people in
structured addition to thorough manner. It works for establishing ethical policies, maintaining
work life quality, increasing employee job satisfaction and reconciling group or individual
objectives to that of company objectives (Bratton and Gold, 2017). Moreover, it is organisational
function which works for hiring, performance, wellness, training, compensation, safety,
motivation and benefits for manpower. To understand human resource management, Tesco
company is chosen which is multinational merchandise addition to grocery retailer having
headquarters at England, UK. The report covers purpose, functions and scope of HRM,
recruitment and selection approaches, various HRM practices and effectiveness of different
practices related to HRM. Further, it includes information about employee relations, employment
legislation elements and application of various practices of human resource management in work
related contexts.

Purpose and functions of human resource management.
Organisational introduction: Tesco is leading retail sector company whose head-quarter
is in England, UK. The organisation was set up by Jack Cohen as various market stalls in 1919. it
has approximate 6800 shops situated in various nations across Europe and Asia. It is well
popular as leader of groceries, general merchandise and many more. The mission statement of
Tesco is to make commodities in better and together manner. Purpose of the retailer is to serve
shoppers and customers with better facilities and continuously building knowledge, competence
as well as abilities of manpower. The core business objectives of chosen firm are to provide
quality commodities at low cost, staying on leading retail position, satisfying demands of
targetted audiences and making higher revenues.
HRM is defined as managerial process to source, hire and engage required workforce at
suitable job so that they are managed systematically in the company. It is integrated, coherent
addition to strategic approach which assist to manage environment and culture of a work premise
(Budhwar and Mellahi, 2016). The nature of HRM are that it emphasis more on results despite of
rules, it has pervasive nature, it makes attempts for putting workforce on assigned jobs and
