process of finding best candidates for vacant job role within specified time and cost. This is the
positive process through which individuals are attracted. There are different approaches of
recruitment i.e. internal and external recruitment. While selection is the process of selecting best
candidate and scrutiny unwanted and irrelevant candidates in terms of their qualification, skills,
knowledge, etc. this is the negative process because under this method individuals are shortlisted
for getting best candidate(Bromiley and Rau, 2016). There are different approaches of selection
such as psychometric test, Group exercises, presentations, ability and aptitude, etc.
Ability and aptitude tests- This is the test which has to be conducted in order to access
general intelligence, verbal ability, numerical knowledge, diagrammatically ability are evaluated.
This is the broad concept which provides complete information about candidates.
Advantages Disadvantages
Under this method, general knowledge about
experience and qualification can be evaluated.
This provides knowledge about their mindset
about their field(Head and Alford, 2015).
While there is difference in perceptions of
interviewer, so there are possibilities of conflict
among individuals regarding selecting best
candidate.
Psychometric testing- A psychometric test is the test to analyse attributes which has to be
followed. In this test mental measures are taken into consideration. Hence in this test, ability test,
personality and aptitude test is conducted.
Advantages Disadvantages
This test provides level of learning of
individual about academic skills.
Sometimes candidate is not able to
representation confidently and interviewer
judges them on this behalf. So this gives
negative impact on representing in front of
external parties.
Chocolate presence is using English comprehension and mathematical test with passing
criteria of 50%. After this there is reference check and then there is interview after meeting
referral criteria. Interview conducted by managers of Chocolate Presence is informal.

Strength of this method is it is easy for managers of Chocolate presence to analyse
general knowledge about subject matter while disadvantage is this is long process which makes
candidate bored. Personal interview is informal which is not appropriate for selecting individuals
for higher designation(Ng and Feldman, 2012). Apart from this managers of chocolate presence
can hire through employee agencies which provides creamy and selected individuals for the
organisation. With hiring through this method, it saves time and reduces complex selection
process.

profiling, online screening and shortlisting etc. In all of them, the administration of Chocolate
Presence can use ability test and group discussion. Because with the help of group discussion,

work on specified job and provide better options. In Microsoft, there are different job positions
and workers have to work as per their skills and experience, so in order to motivate the,

Five factors of Maslow's Need Hierarchy theory are-
(Source: Maslow's Need Hierarchy theory, 2019) Psychological need:- This is the basic step in hierarchy in which there is discussion about
prime needs of consumers i.e. clothes, shelter, food because this is important for residing.
Firstly HR manager of Microsoft have to analyse that these needs have to be fulfilled. Safety and security need:- There is requirement of proper safe and secured environment

plan for social gathering, outing, movie, etc. through which they are familiar with each

employees are getting reward and get appreciated in front of others, then they are
motivated to give best. This boost confidence of other employees and improves
performance of whole association.
Self-actualisation:- This is the last hierarchy in Maslow's need which shows different
types needs which they expect when they are performing well. This need makes
employees satisfied because there time to time personal demands are satisfied.
TASK 4
A) Importance of employee's engagement in the organisation
Employee Engagement can be defined as the extent to which the employees working in an
organisation are passionate about their job roles and work with full interest and dedication to
provide the best possible efficiency to the organisation's productivity and profitability. With the
help of good employee relations it will be possible for the organisation to achieve the goals and
objectives of the organisation smoothly. It is very important for the organisations to make focus
on the relationship in between the employees and the organisation in order to get the work done
from them(Vaiman, Scullion and Collings, 2012). In today's world, employees are more talented
and works in diversified fields, their knowledge has expanded as compared to that of earlier
workers. Employees are the most important asset in an organisation that could ensure the growth
and development of the organisation.
For maintaining good relation with employees it is important for the organisation such
Microsoft to firstly focus on increasing the employee engagement in the organisation with the
help of making improvement in the communication strategies of the organisation, increasing the
interaction, solving their problems and queries so that they could work feeling relaxed and
devoted to the work they doing(Ployhart and et. al., 2014). Additionally, Microsoft could also
provide their employees with different types of motivators whether monetary and non monetary
according to the needs of employees which will help in keeping the employees engaged with the
organisation for a long period of time. The most important thing is to work on making the
employees creative and innovative. This could be done only by providing the employees with

proper environment and make them to take risk to develop new ideas and make innovations that
could foster the rate of growth and development of the organisation. In this way, employee
engagement and employee relations could provide the organisation with positive consequences
that will not only improve the working of the organisation but will also improve the relation in
between the organisation and the employees in the positive way.
B) Key approaches for engaging employee's
With the help of communication an organisation can easily engage all employee's in decision
making process. So with the help of maintaining proper relation with the employees it will be
possible for the manager of Microsoft to achieve the goals and objectives of the organisation.
When the employees are involved in the decision making process of the company, this creates a
feeling of being important and belongingness in the minds of employees. This helps in increasing
the loyalty of employees for the organisation. In case of wider choices provided by the
employees, it will be possible for the organisation to make innovation because the single mind of
Manager will provide only restricted ideas but with the help of employees engaged in the
decision making process, they will provide many new ideas which the manager may not think
off. Their ideas will be evaluated and in case they found those to be suitable for implementation
than this will influence the decision making process of the HR Manager. Good employee relation
will help in maintaining long term relationship with the organisation whereas bad relation with
employees will provide the organisation will make the organisation to have severe consequences.
C) Key elements for employee's legislation
In many countries, there are many legislations which has been made by the government
of different countries in order to control and overlook on the working of the organisations. The
description of those are provided as under:
Equal Pay, 2010: In accordance with this act, it makes illegal to make the discrimination
in relation to the salaries and wages for the employees working on the same position and
discrimination of employees on the basis of their gender as women are paid less and men are
paid higher on the same position(Alfes and et. al., 2013). These kind of acts are made unlawful
and in case any organisation does the same, will be liable to severe consequences.
Sex Discrimination Act, 1975: The following law states that the discrimination on the
basis of sex such as men and women should not be made and it makes illegal to these kind of
activities. In case some founded, will be liable to legal prosecution.
12
Document Page
Disability Discrimination Act, 1995: According to this law, it makes illegal to
discriminate the employees on the basis of their physical disabilities and their discrimination will
be make the people liable to imprisonment or fines or both.
Race Relations Act, 1976: The following Act takes into consideration about the
discrimination of employees on the basis of their gender, race, colour, background and on any
grounds, this Act makes it illegal to do so and the person will be liable to have severe
consequences for these kinds of acts performed by them.
So the fulfilment of the obligations mentioned under these kinds of Acts will help
Microsoft in many ways, it will not only help in maintaining good relation with the employees
but will also help in keeping the organisation safe from the intervention of the government. In
addition to this, it will also impact upon the performance of employees because they are provided
with good working environment, better services from other organisations so this will not only
help in retaining employees in the organisation but will also help in getting the potential
employees attracted towards the organisation (Haslberger, Brewster and Hippler, 2013).
The goodwill of the organization will also increase in the market also. Overall, the
fulfillment and working of the organizations according to the laws made by the government will
led to give positive consequences to the organization and the non fulfillment of these obligation
will lead to negative consequences such as negative impacts upon the brand image of the
organization, decrease in the employee satisfaction level and many more. So in order to reduce
the intervention of government in the working of the company, it should follow properly the
rules and regulations provided by the organization (Wu, 2013).
CONCLUSION
From the above assignment it can be summarized that HRM itself is a valuable assets for
the organisation as it helps in evaluating the performance and growth of the respective firm.
HRM practices also help in sustaining workers in the organisation by maintaining healthy
relationship with the employees as they support in gaining a competitive advantage over a
competitors. In relation to this it is very crucial for the HR manager to build coercive relations
with their worker and to formulate the strategies and policies which will help the company in
achieving its long term objectives. Along with this it is also very important for the HR trainer to
view all the governing that has be implemented for the organization to adopt in order to increase
their performance.
