Introduction, context and objectives The paper focuses on the effectiveness of people management within the organization“CostCutter” which is a retail company in the United Kingdom. The company operates inIreland, United Kingdom, Poland and Jersey Channel Islands by encompassing bothsupermarkets as well as convenience stores.As business of the company is expanding, the company recognizesthat the managersacross the business generally require proper support with managing people. It is identifiedthat the managers of the business experience number of issues as well as challenges in theway they approach their role and handled the management issues of the company.Absenteeism was found high and in some part people were leaving as they found lack ofproper progression opportunities within the organization due to external recruitment.Conflicts are also occurring for the way in which the staffs of the company are treated. Inorder to resolve the issues, CostCutter wants to improve the way in which the people of thecompany are managed and thus they want to review several journal articles so that they canhave proper information about how the organizational people can be managed.The objectives are as follows:To reflect the importance of people management within the organizationTo elaborate the ways of people management within the organizationTo discuss the policies that are helpful in managing the people of theorganization effectivelyII. Literature ReviewAccording to Malik and Rowley (2015), people management is one of the mostsignificant leadership skills that help in directly influencing productivity of theorganizationby creating proper impact on staff motivation as well as on staff morale. It isidentified that the skills of people management are considered critical during the transitionperiods and therefore in order to make changes in the management of the organization, it isquite important to build proper models of leadership that helps in integrating dialogue basedengagement strategies for management of people (Michie et al., 2016).

3PEOPLE MANAGEMENTII. i) Importance of managing people in the organization. It is stated by Malik (2015), that the main argument of people management is that itgenerally contributes for the performance of the organization. If an organization is able totreat its staff in a way through which the employees of the company feel fair as well as ethicalthen they are likely to suffer very much lower level of turnover in comparison to theorganizations that treat their employees badly. It is opined by Au and Ahmed (2014), thatbudget of replacing as well as losing the average workers are quite high as they generallyinclude termination payments, recruitment, selection, relocation, disruption to work as well asthe time that is needed by the new staffs to develop the specific skills associated with theorganization. It is identified that there are number of benefits of managing people of theorganization. The benefits include high productivity, proper team spirit as well as positiveattitudes among the people towards their work (Newenham-Kahindi et al., 2013). In additionto this people management is useful in bringing enthusiasm to the work place by enhancingthe bottom line of the company. It is stated by Bainbridge (2015) that the employees who enter within the workplacehave the intent of working hard and therefore it is quite important for the organization toprevent demotivation among the employees of the organization. The organization mustmotivate as well as manage its people quite effectively so that they found opportunities inworking further with the organization. Thus, the rate of employee retention will decrease inthe organization. In addition to this, the organization must engage in proper formalizedmotivation program for the retention of good workers. On the other hand, it is opined by Abdulla et al., (2013) that people managementhelps in preventing complacency within the organization as motivated workforce generallywork in a way that assist in providing greatest value to the entire organization. If the peopleof the organization are not motivated or managed then they will face disinterest in daily rolesof the organization and as a result, entire objectives of the organization can face problems inthe work quality of the organization (Wehrmeyer, 2017). Therefore, it is quite important touse proper strategies of people management so that the complacency within the organizationcan be prevented. According to Bon and Mustafa (2014), Proper use of people management strategy isquite important for encouraging creativity, commitment as well as energy of the worker.
