The essay brings about the discussion on the assignment ‘Business communication’ and the
related concepts or aspects. The topic which has been selected for this assignment is
“Emotional intelligence is only important for managers”. The concept of emotional
intelligence is crucial for the managers in any organisation, as it helps them to understand and
manage the emotions of others along with themselves. It is an annotated bibliography which
will bring analysis on the topic from the use of five peer-reviewed articles including the
summary on the argument.

The concept of emotional intelligence is vital for the managers in an organisation as it helps
them manage the emotions of employees and other organisational members along with
themselves. Managers with the capability of emotional intelligence are better at handling
relationships, navigate social networks amongst people in the organisation, and influence, or
inspire others. Emotional intelligence benefits the managers in the organisation to a great
extent, as they earn the appreciation and gratitude from their peers and other members in the
organisation. Now, the concept will be assessed from the perspectives of different authors. To
understand this concept, the study has been conducted by authors in their study mentioned
about the capability and skills that site managers are expected to have, which leads to
effectiveness in their working. The analysis was made from a survey conducted on the human
resource professionals and site managers who were working in the construction companies.
The survey helped in identifying 25 competencies and the skills which were significant for
these managers. In addition it described about the frequency with which these skills were
applied by managers in their working styles. The authors stated the skill of ‘emotional
intelligence’ and stated that it is only important for the managers, especially those working at
the sites and construction companies. Emotional intelligence is found to be the most
important competency which for the development of interpersonal skills to the project
managers. The skills lead to their development and boost their confidence to acquire higher
career prospects in the future.
