EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
It has been discussed in the report that emotional intelligence is very much important to
develop positive relations at the workplace and achieve the objectives of personal growth and
career enhancement. The report discusses the concept and meaning of emotional intelligence
along with key aspects and associated frameworks like Goleman's five domains and Bradbery.
Moreover, it demonstrates the case of Tesco and the benefits that employees have, when
developing emotional intelligence and the benefits that the management in test for as obtained by
understanding and demonstrating emotional intelligence at the workplace. Certain concepts of
employee engagement and its importance to management and employees within the organization
are also discussed like well-being of employees, stress management etc. Along with this, the
importance of emotional intelligence for different groups of workers is also explained like
increased teamwork, raising self-awareness, high employee morale, better management and
leadership etc. In this context, impacts of pandemic on employee well-being and remote working
are discussed as well as the benefits that an organization can gain from employee well-being are
also elaborated. Aspects of Emotional Intelligence are highlighted that can be used by managers
for improving their performance like self-awareness, self-management, social awareness,
empathy and sympathy etc. Finally reflection is provided about my level of emotional
intelligence along with a development plan.

INTRODUCTION
Emotional Quotient or EQ is also known as Emotional Intelligence (EI), which can be
elaborated as the capability of an individual to handle their emotions in such a manner that it
lowest down their stress, resolve conflicts, overcome challenges, empathise with people and
communicate effectively (Christianson, 2020). Emotional intelligence is very much important to
develop positive relations at the workplace and achieve the objectives of personal growth and
career enhancement. Emotional intelligence is also important because it helps an individual to
connect with their feelings, make correct decisions and take positive actions by converting their
intentions so that they can achieve desired level of outcomes. The following report will
demonstrate the concept of emotional intelligence along with the frameworks that can be used to
improve emotional intelligence. In this context it will also provide the study of Tesco that have
developed emotional intelligence among their employees and managers so that organisational
efficiency can be improved. Tesco is a huge retail organisation that was established in the year
1919 and is headquartered in Welwyn Garden City, London. Along with this it will also
demonstrate the importance of emotional intelligence for managers, employees and workers who
are working remotely due to Covid-19 pandemic. In the end it will be providing guidance for
managers for improving their emotional intelligence and is a critical reflection on my emotional
intelligence and ways to improve it.
MEANING OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGNECE AND ASSOCIATED
FRAMEWORKS AND RELATED CONCEPTS
Emotional Intelligence (EI)
Emotional Quotient or EQ is also known as Emotional Intelligence (EI), which can be
elaborated as the capability of an individual to handle their emotions in such a manner that it
lowest down their stress, resolve conflicts, overcome challenges, empathise with people and
communicate effectively. Emotional intelligence is very much important to develop positive
relations at the workplace and achieve the objectives of personal growth and career enhancement
(Cui, 2021). Emotional intelligence is also important because it helps an individual to connect
with their feelings, make correct decisions and take positive actions by converting their
intentions so that they can achieve desired level of outcomes.

Identify Areas of EI
The major domains of emotional intelligence that entails an individual's abilities are often
lumped as Emotional Quotient in Popular vernacular (Hurley and et. al., 2020). These areas of
emotional intelligence are as follows:
Self-management that is considered as the ability to handle impulsive behaviours and
feelings to manage the emotions in a proper manner, follow the commitments and adapt to
dynamic situations (Makkar and Basu, 2019).
Self-awareness is another aspect of emotional intelligence that focuses on identifying our
thoughts and behaviours and how they are affected by our emotions. Self-awareness is
helpful to identify our weaknesses and strengths to develop self-confidence.
Social awareness is mainly considered as having empathy to understand people around
ourselves. Social awareness or empathy helps to understand the strong forces that affect
people, their emotions, feelings, concerns and requirements and help to adapt socially.
Relationship management is related to developing and maintaining positive relations with
others like communicating positively, resolving conflicts, teamwork, etc. (Kaya and et. al.,
2018).
Associated Frameworks of EI
Goleman’s Five Domains of EI:
Scientific journalist, psychologist and author Daniel Goleman has developed the concept
of emotional intelligence concept in 1995 in his book of Emotional Intelligence (Gültekin and
Icigen, 2019). Daniel Goleman has developed 5 major aspects that make emotional intelligence
that are elaborated below:
Self-awareness is first aspect of emotional intelligence that focuses on identifying our
thoughts and behaviours and how they are affected by our emotions (Lehner, 2020). Self-
awareness is helpful to identify our weaknesses and strengths to develop self-confidence.
Self-regulation is related to the handling of quick response and thinking at the causes of
acting impulsively or irrationally at a given movement (Schlegel and Mortillaro, 2019).

Motivation is another factor that was determined by Goldman's that helps to improve
emotional intelligence by providing encouragement to the people to overcome problems or
deliver higher performance.

Empathy refers to the ability to understand the emotions of others and relate them with
situation so that better results can be achieved. This helps to understand the problems of an
individual and provide better options for them to work.
Social awareness is mainly considered as having empathy to understand people around
ourselves (Karimi and et. al., 2020). Social awareness or empathy helps to understand the
strong forces that affect people, their emotions, feelings, concerns and requirements and help
to adapt socially.
Bradberry
Travis Bradbery and Jean Greaves have detailed the concept of emotional intelligence in
their book Emotional Intelligence 2.0 that has provided the process to achieve better emotional
intelligence so that better performance can be obtained and goals can be achieved. The book
mainly highlights the four major emotional intelligence skills that must be acquired by an
individual to achieve emotional intelligence (Srivastava and Dey, 2019). It explains the same
Emotional Quotient (EQ) skills that are elaborated above in daily practice so that a person can
overcome negative emotions and develop positive emotions that can help to improve their
