Chapter 1: Introduction
Introduction to the research:
Talent management is defined as the commitment of organisation for recruiting, hiring,
recreating and developing the best talented employees of the company. Talent management
consists of all work processes and systems which are associated with retaining and developing a
superior workforce. This is defined as a business strategy which helps companies in retaining
their employees who are skilled and talented. This helps in attracting a lot of potential employees
towards the company (Ashton and Morton, 2005). If a company will be able to attract and retain
talented employees, then productivity and performance of employees can be easily enhanced. In
context of Cairn Hotel which is situated in London, it is important for this organisation to attract
and retain talented and skilled staff so that they can be able to make more profits. The following
research is based on the need of talent management in this hotel so that productivity and
performance of employees can be increased.
Background of the project:
Talent management is an essential part of the company as this will help in retaining a
number of talented and skilled employees within the company. In context of Cairn Hotel it is
required for the management of this company to have an effective and smooth functioning of the
operations and business activities. This research is conducted so that this hotel will be able to
estimate and understand about the importance of talent management and it's benefits.
Statement of the research:
The statement of this research is that talent management affects the productivity and
efficiency of employees. This can be proved by the following research as if there are more
talented and skilled employees in the company then they can achieve the goals and objectives of
the company in less time.

Research Aim:
The aim of this research is “To determine the importance of talent management in Cairn
Hotel for rising workforce productivity and performance”.

Purpose and scope of the research:
The purpose of this research is to analyse the importance of talent management within an
organisation. It is essential for every organisation to provide benefits to employees and
understand their needs and demands so that these requirement are fulfilled in the organisation. If
management will know the demands and needs of employees then organisation will be able to
fulfil their needs (Cappelli, 2009). This will motivate them and help them work in the
organisation with enthusiasm and confidence.
Rationale for the research topic:
Cairn hotel is an organisation that is situated in London and this hotel is not able to retain
it's customers. The main problem which was faced by customers was that staff members were
not skilled and they were unable to provide quality services. This research will help to analyse
the need of talent management in this company and management of this hotel will know how to
retain skilled and knowledgable workers of the company.

Gantt chart and Work breakdown structure:
Gantt chart- Gantt chart is a kind of bar chart formulated for graphic data , planning and
controlling of the work and also identifying the progress of the project . It is kind of chart which
elaborators about the work schedule , timing and also provide the information about the project
status. The Gantt chart was the introduce by Henry Gantt.

Work break down structure – It helps in dividing the complex project in the simpler
form which help the company to analize the data easily. Usually the managers of the company
use the work breakdown method to mange the large junk of work into manageable data. The
WBS save time of the company as well the employees and provide necessary framework to
control the cost .

Chapter 2: Literature Review
Concept of talent management
According to Heathfield, S., 2019, talent management is a strategy which is adopted by
organizations with the purpose to retain talented workforce. Talent management plays an
important role in bringing human resource together, and focuses on co-ordination and
integration. It includes various steps to attract talent for organization so that goals and objectives
can be easily accomplished. The process model is as follow - Planning: It is a first step adopted
by management to invite talent. Here the organization identify human requirements such as
capital, working conditions and flexibility. Then employees job description and their key roles
are defined for recruitment plan. Attracting: It define source of recruitment as internal or
external to seek talented individuals for vacant positions. Organizations management give
advertisements through newspaper, emails and job search links as LinkedIn by this strategy
individuals who are in search for new job can be attracted easily. Selecting: It define the process
of selecting individuals through recruitment by making them write test and interviews then most
suitable person is hired for job profile. Interview process help managers to identify employees
talent by communicating with participants and knowing their values and interest for
organization. Knowledgeable work force is selected to enhance growth of organization.
Developing: At this stage individuals are prepared and provide training sessions to enhance their
knowledge for job profile. Orientation programmes is undertaken to make them understand their
values and job description. The counselling, coaching, educating, monitoring activities are
important part of development stage. Retaining: it defines importance of employee retention for
growth, survival and existence of organization. Promotions, increments, motivation and
opportunities for growth by concerning decisions of employees teaching them new job skills and
identifying contributions and efforts are some strategies which help in employee retaining.
Transitioning: It define aim of overall transformation of workforce so that organization goals
and objectives can easily accomplished by them. This help in providing retirement benefits to
employees by conducting exit interviews.
Requirement of talent management within Cairn Hotel
As per the thoughts of Collings, D. G. and Mellahi, K., 2009 Talent management is defined
as the ability to attract, motivate, develop and retain the skilled and engaged employees of the

company. It is required for various companies to have a proper planning for effective talent
management so that they can retain employees working in the company. In case of multinational
companies and international companies it is essential that they are working effectively and
having an effective talent management for enhancing the performance of employees as well as
organisation. If any company provides benefits, incentives and bonuses to its employees then it is
easy for these companies to retain employees. On the other hand, if they are unable to fulfil the
demands and needs of employees then there may be occurrence of dissatisfaction among
employees. This will lead to demotivation in employees and they will not be able to perform well
in achieve their targets and goals. A proper and effective talent management is required in Cairn
Hotel for improving the retention rate of their staff. This can be done by providing attractive
benefits and profits to employees. If a worker is satisfied he will work efficiently for company
and make profits for the organisation. On the other hand, a dissatisfied worker will decline the
productivity and efficiency of the organisation.

The human resource management of the company is that department which takes care of
employees and managers working in the organisation. The main objective of this department is
to recruit and hire new talented employees and also retaining the existing employees of the
company. Thus in case of every company it is important for the human resource management of
the company to adopt the talent management techniques in the company. Hence it can be
analysed that talent management is very important for every organization to attain goals and
objectives effectively. Management take various initiatives and provide opportunities to retain
employees such as role design, training and development, flexibility. A effective and talented
human resource can enhance growth chart of an organization on the other hand unskilled and
demotivated employees can negatively affect growth of company.
Chapter 3: Research Methodology
It is defined as a systematic method of conducting research. There are different methods which
are used for collecting data such as quantitative and qualitative method. Quantitative research is
used to define numeric data problems by transforming that in statics, it plays an important role in

quantifying attitudes, opinions and behaviour of individuals. On the other hand qualitative
research is defined as exploratory study which provide understanding, opinions and motivations.
To define the process of research methodology some effective stages are described below:
Research onion
It define the methodologies and process which is used for collecting information and
proper investigation. It was developed Saunders, it provide effective stage of research process.
Research design: It define the set of procedures which are utilised and analysed while
measuring specific problems. Research design includes some factors through which data can be
analysed such as descriptives in which case study and surveys are conducted and semi-
experimental as field experiments.
Research approach: This approach generally identifies initiation of research strategies
and provide a way to different research methods. The approaches helps in identifying connection
between observation and logics, it is divided into two parts inductive and deductive. Inductive
research get start with observing the facts and then moving back to theories, wherein data is
accumulated first by different ways such as interviews and questionnaires. whereas deductive
approach starts with analysing statements or hypothesis and ends on finding true observations.
Data collection method: It is defined as a process of collecting important facts and data
related to research. There are two methods used for data collection as primary and secondary
methods (Deery, 2008). Primary method is defined as fresh collection of information, it is also
grouped into two parts quantitative and qualitative research. Primary data can be gathered
through interviews, questionnaires, face to face interactions to analyse relevant information.
Secondary data is defined as reuse of already searched data such as research books, news papers,
magazines, advertisement media. These data collection methods plays an important role in
analysing accurate information required in research process.
Questionnaire: It refers to printed paper set which includes various questions, it is
basically defined as research which consist different analysis with the purpose of collecting
information. Questionnaires can be of many types such as computer questionnaire where
respondents give answers through mails, it is inexpensive process and time effective too. But the
main drawback is sometimes respondents ignore mails which can lead to a problem in research
process. Telephone surveys and In-house survey are also the part of research methodology

wherein surveys are conducted through telephonic conversation and some people tend to go
home for accurate informations, this process is very time consuming.
Sample size: It define the measurement of individuals sample used in a research, this
method is used for defining a uniform sub set of population. Sampling can be defined into
probabilistic and non-probabilistic method which can be affected through size of sample and
population size. Probability sampling includes random sampling for data collection and it
eliminates biasses whereas non-probabilistic sampling is a method of selecting odd members
through this adequacy of the sample can not be analysed. Non-probability sampling is cheaper
and quicker then probability because it does not define interest in population parameters.
Data analysis: It is defined as the process of evaluating information through examining
data. This refers to stages of collecting, transforming and cleaning data with purpose of accessing
information (Dries, 2013). Data analysis process includes various phases such as data
requirement specifications, data collection, data processing, data cleaning and communication. In
these stages data is gathered and analysed with the purpose of finding required information. Here
the data is also analysed through qualitative and quantitative methods.

different companies in order to retain skilled and talented employees.

Chapter 5: Conclusion, Recommendations and anticipated Limitations
Reflection
In my whole journey of conducting this research, I have faced lot of challenges and
problems. While accomplishing this project I developed my communication skills. The
questionnaire filling helped me to remove my introvertness and interact with others to know their
concepts ad aspects. I overcome my fear of communication and introvert while doing this
research.
Recommendations
There are following recommendation for the cairn Hotel London to improve the
productivity of the employees –
 It is recommended that human resource management of the company must adopt talent
management in the company in order to increase the sales and profits of the company.
 In addition to this, it is recommended Cairn Hotel must focus on the latest tools and
techniques for talent management that he has to work.
Conclusion
From the above report, it can be analysed that talent management is requirement of the
company if it wants to sustain successful in market. Also the human resource management of the
company has to work effectively and adopt techniques like succession planning, performance
appraisals, performance management for retaining talented and skilled employees of the
company. This will help in increasing the profitability and efficiency of the company.
