1INDUSTRY BASED LEARNING SELF-REFLECTIONIntroductionThe project that I had undertaken is an important one and has been a learning experiencefor me. While doing this project, I have learned about the various issues that are faced by theNigerian students wanting to study at New Zealand. The issues faced by the Nigerian studentsinclude issues with visa, language differences, money, and lack of acquaintance with the cultureof New Zealand. This assignment highlights the critical incidents and self-reflection of the rolethat I played while completing the report successfully. The key incidents that have a majorsignificance on the completion of the project have been highlighted, along with the action planfor personal development that I need to ensure, in order to enhance my skills for the futureprojects. Self-evaluation of the impact behaviourThe three most critical incidents that are significant include the ability to build positiverelations with the staffs, effective time management and communication. 1. Ability to build positive relation with the staffBuilding relations with people at the personal and professional level has a majorsignificance. Building of positive relations has a key role to play. While taking part in theproject, I have been successful in building relation with the various people that I have connectedwith, while completing this project. While working on the project, I had to communicate withvarious Nigerian students, in order to understand the issues that are being faced by the studentsof Nigeria, while studying at New Zealand. I had to communicate with the various agents, whohad been working closely with the students of Nigeria. Building positive relations with the

While communicating with the students, initially I faced obstruction from thestudents. This is because; I had not been able to build a positive relation with them. However,with time, I was successful in building a positive relation with the students as well as with theagents whom I interviewed. Moreover, while doing this research project, I had to work incollaboration with my friends and classmate. While taking assistance from them, I was able tobuild a strong and positive relation with my friends. The ability of building a positive relation isessential and will help me in my professional development as well. With the building ofsuccessful relationship with the key staffs and others who are involved in the project, I am ableto ensure that my project is completed successfully. 2. Effective time managementTime management has a key role to play in ensuring the success of a project. Timemanagement refers to the effective management of the various activities that are involved incompletion of the project, along with setting the right priority for each task. Time management isessential in order to complete the research project successfully, within the stipulated time. Whileworking on this project, I realised the importance of effective time management. Lack of timemanagement skills, result in the loss of time, along with delay in work. Various steps that help inthe effective time management are as follows:i. Goal settingOne of the initial and most essential steps in effective time management is setting up agoal. It is important for me to set up a goal that I aspire to achieve. Setting up the goal isimportant in order to distribute the time, among the various activities. I need set a realistic goal,

However, if I am not able to set agoal that is realistic and achievable, I will not be successful in effective time management. Inorder to ensure effective time management while working on the research project, the goals that Ineed to set includes carrying out in-depth research, reviewing the various relevant literatures,selecting the suitable research methodology, along with ensuring the timely completion of theresearch project. Moreover, the goals that I set up needs to be SMART (Specific, Measurable,Achievable, Realistic, and timely). ii. Setting the priorityIt is important to set priority of the tasks, in order to ensure successful time-management.In order to set priority of the tasks, the deadline of each of the tasks needs to be set. The settingof priority of the various tasks is important and helpful for effective time-management.Moreover, prioritising the work will help me understand which task to do with urgency.However, if I fail to set priority, unimportant tasks will be done earlier, than the important once.Hence, for effective time-management, setting priority is essential. iii. Realistic planningAnother important step in effective time-management is realistic planning. I need to setgoals that are realistic and could be achieved successfully. If I set a goal that cannot be achievedwithin a stipulated amount of time, then effective time-management cannot be done. Hence, Ineed to set up goals that are realistic and could be achieved within the stipulated time. Settingrealistic goals that could be achieved successfully is effective in ensuring effective timemanagement.
