TOPIC: Effects of team working in workplace INTRODUCTION Team work refers working of people in a group and in a team in order to accomplish common goal. There are 2 ways of completing given work by employers such as working individually or working in a team. Working individually means having no interference of anyone and performing all functions of making given project successful (Onyett, 2018). On the other hand, in team working different types and nature of people or employees of an organization work in a team and perform functions as per their knowledge and specialties. Main aim of team members is to accomplish common goal and making the given project successful by cooperating each others. Team working has several advantages and there are several companies or retailers who focus on team working the most as they know the importance of it such as: Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Apple etc. Background This present study of developing inquiry based learning or knowing effects of team working in workplace is based on Sainsbury’s. It is the 2nd largest chain of supermarkets in the UK with having around 1,415 shops. It employs around 116,400 employees and sell qualitative varieties of products. This present study is going to show importance of some benefits of team working. With the help of views of different authors it will also show ways as how team working can make Sainsbury’s able to accomplish its goals and improving image as well (O’Leary, 2016). Further, it will also discuss importance of all elements of research methodology in developing a research. Data collection and their interpretation also play an important role. Aims and Objectives Aim “To identify effects which team working have on employees in workplace. A Case study on Sainsbury’s”. Objectives To identify benefits or importance of team working at Sainsbury’s. To explore reasons as how team working can improve brand of Sainsbury’s.
To identify ways to increase an effective team working at workplace. Research questions What are some benefits of team working in workplace? How team working can make Sainsbury’s able to improve its image? What are some strategies and ways of encouraging and implementing team working at workplace? Literature review Benefits of team working in workplace As per the views ofSmither,Houston and McIntire, (2016)team working has several benefits and one of the most common and effective benefit of team working is it fosters creativity and bring innovation in workplace. When employees work in a team on the common project than they share their views and knowledge as well as ways of solving problems and completing the project. Different views make bring creativity and they become able to complete the project in an effective manner and making them creative as well. In addition,Langenwalter, (2019)stated that team working builds trust among employees as when they work in a team than it improves their relation because they have to interact with each others. This trust and improved relation allow them to retain in an organization. It also helps company in increasing productivity and sales as well. How team working can improveimage of Sainsbury’s Team working plays an important role and there are several reasons which show that why team working is important for companies to encourage. One of the main reason which shows that team working can allow Sainsbury’s to improve its image is it reduces chances of errors. When employees work in a team then they share their views which allow them to make the best decision and solving problems which they face. This sharing of knowledge also allow them to make project qualitative and without errors (Lyons, 2017). On the other hand,Ullah and et.al., (2016)said that by making a clear vision and communicating them among all employees is also can be the way to encourage team working. Making a list of employees with their qualification and specialties of performing the nature of work, company can develop a team and can allot works to them accordingly. Research methodology A process which helps researcher in identifying, collecting and analyzing informations is known as research methodology. It consists of several steps or elements which are discussed below in a detailed manner: Research types:A form in which scholar collects data or informations is known as research type. Qualitative and quantitative are 2 types of research by which researcher collect data on the basis of the nature of the topic. Informations which are being collected in the form of numbers is known as quantitative (Flick, 2018). Those data which are being collected in non-numerical or words form is known as qualitative. For this researcher will use qualitative type. Research approach:A plan which consists of several steps of broad assumption of detailed method in which researcher collect and interpreted informations is considered as research approach. Inductive and deductive are 2 approaches of research. In inductive, researcher generate a new theory from which he collects informations relevant to the topic, whereas, in deductive
research approach, scholar develop an existing theory for collecting informations. This topic is aboutteam working and knowing its effectiveness so, researcher will use inductive because it will allow him to increase knowledge by generating new theory and collecting accurate data. Research philosophy:It is a belief about some techniques or ways in which researcher collects informations about a phenomenon. Interpretivism and positivism are 2 philosophies about a phenomenon of collecting data. Selection of philosophies depends upon approaches for example: interpretivism is suitable for inductive approach and positivism is suitable with deductive approach and quantitative research. Interpretivism is about focusing on human and takes their interest into consideration for the study. On the other hand, positivism adheres to the view that with observations, researcher can only gain factual data. So, for this, researcher will use interpretivism. Data collection:There are 2 types of collecting data such as primary and secondary. In primary scholar collects first hand or new data and in secondary type he collects second hand data which may be used before. There are some sources of secondary data such as: books and journals, articles etc. Whereas, questionnaire, survey are sources of primary. For this researcher will use secondary types (Packard, 2017). Data analysis:After collecting both types of data, researcher finds requirement of analyzing or molding them in order to make them accurate, valid and reliable. As like research type, it also has of 2 types such as qualitative and quantitative. Selection of data analysis depends upon the main type. For analyzing numerical or quantitative data, quantitative data analysis is being used. For non-numerical data, qualitative data analysis is being used. This research is qualitative so, researcher will use thematic or qualitative data analysis. Sampling:A process of selecting a group of people or target people is known as sampling. Random and non-random are2 ways in which people are being selected (Chaum, 2018). In random, people are being targeted randomly and in non-random they are being selected on some basis of factors. For example: their qualification, working experience and others. Researcher will use random for this study. 20 employees of Sainsbury’swill be selected as sample.

Theme: 2The main benefit or effect which team working can have Interpretation: From the above question, it can be said that team working have several benefits for companies. Majority of employees of Sainsbury’s said and believe that they think that team working can improve relationship of employees with the company and with each others. On the other hand some employees interpreted that it can allow their company to increase overall productivity because it reduces errors and rest of employees said that it help them out in improving image. So, it can be said that it has several benefits for the company. Theme: 3The best model of team development Interpretation: In the context of team development it is asked from employees of Sainsbury’s that as per them what is the best model which can help company in encouraging team development. In this context majority of employees said that they think that Belbin’s team development is the best and by implementing this, company can make itself able to develop team working. On the other hand, rest of employees stated about Tuckman’s team development.
Theme 4: Issues occur while working in a team Interpretation: It is stated that team working does not only has benefits but it creates some problems for employees. Employers also face problems in developing team working. In this context, some employees interpreted that they think that team working can increase conflicts because different employees have different perception and feel ignored when their concerns are not being taken into consideration. Rest of employees said that it creates languages problem for them. Theme 5: Recommend some ways by which your company can develop team working Interpretation: In this open ended question, all selected employees were given a fair and an equal chance to share their feelings about what they want to recommend their company by which they can develop team working an effective manner. In this context, some employees stated that think that by providing training to all employees and providing them knowledge about languages whichthey can use while working in a team can help them out in developing team working. They stated that due to language barrier they face problems. Some employees said that by providing projects to employees on the basis of their qualification by making them aware about importance of team working, they can encourage team development.
CONCLUSION From the above study it has been summarized that team working played a vital role as it allows employees and organizations to accomplish their goals, improving image, increasing productivity and sales. It has also shown as how companies have made themselves able to improve image in the eyes of customers and retain them with the company for the long run with the help of encouragingteamworking. Further, thisstudy hasdiscussed some waysof developing team working with the help of team development theories. It has also shown increasing importance of following each element or step of research methodology as it supports researcher to get informations relevant to the topic and accomplish the main aim of this study. Data collection as well as data analysis also played avital role because informations are important and the main key of the success of research or inquiry based learning study.
