Supply chain management in Woolworths
Woolworths is one of the largest supermarket chain that deals in the food stuff and the
groceries. It is the prominent player in the retail industry operating in Australia and New Zealand
and now expanded its business into other sectors like petroleum, hospitality and the general
merchandise. It has a highly distributed network of more than 6000 suppliers and 3200 retail
outlets, which requires an efficient supply chain management in the company (Mohanty and
Shankar, 2017).
Woolworths has managed the supply chain of its products so that timely and efficiently
the demands of the customers is fulfilled. The major concern flow of goods from the suppliers to
its end users. Since the company deals in the retail market of the food stuff and the groceries so it
has to supply fresh food and vegetables to the consumers which it undertakes with the help of the
local suppliers and vendors based in the continent of Australia (Woolworths Supply Chain
Management, 2021). Apart from that the company has managed to build warehouses on varied
locations having cold storage that efficiently stores the goods and help in the timely availability
of all its products. With the help of various distribution centres and proper logistics arrangement
so that the mobility of the goods is smoothly managed and made to reach all its supermarkets in
the real time.
Issues or failures due to lack of integration in the supply chain logistics management and the
impacts on the business
The integration in the supply chain logistics management of the company is very
essential where all the processes are jointly undertaken over a centralized system (Zhao and
et.al., 2018). It is a process where the suppliers, distribution centres, logistics arrangement and
the management are all integrated over a single network which facilitates the smooth and
efficient transfer of the goods and the information throughout the chain ensuring that the
demands of the end user are timely and efficiently met.
The two major issues or failures that can take place in the absence of proper integration
of the supply chain are:-
Lack of information sharing and communication- In case of improper integration of the
supply chain logistics management the company shall be facing the problem of effective
transfer of the information. This shall cause inefficiency in the company because of the
