INTRODUCTION
International Leadership involves the ability to influence and inspire the thinking,
attitudes and behaviour of people from around the globe. It is a process by which members of
the world community are empowered to work together towards a common goal which leads to
the improvement in the quality of conducting business and life or for the society. These leaders
are the individual who strongly influence the process of global leadership (Boukamcha, 2019).
This report is based on British Airways. The following report is based on the impact of Covid 19
on the international airlines during lock down. Further it will describe the leadership style that
will assist the airways in designing the strategy to recreate a profitability and sustainability of
the company or how culture play in the leadership of the international airlines.

Leadership Style
Leadership Styles are method of providing direction, implementing plans, and motivating people.
It classifies how person behave while leading a group. In 1939, a group of researchers identify
different styles of leadership and each leadership styles has its place in leaders checklist. A
visionary abilities of leaders are agility, judgement, innovation, interpersonal tact, and domain
knowledge.
TRANSFORMATIONAL:
Transformation leadership style is identified as the single most effective style. Transformational
leaders are able to motivate and inspire members. These leaders tend to be emotionally
intelligent, energetic and passionate. British Airways follows this transformational leadership
style as it assist it to bring continuous changes in its operations so that customers are attracted.
The leaders of British Airways are not only devoted to helping the organisation to achieve the
goals, but also to helping group members fulfil their ability. The transformation leadership led to
improved well being among members. This leadership assist in achieving a goals of the industry
by understanding the points which can build the long term sustainability and profitability for the
British airways. The company gets affected by the covid effects during lock down they have to
face the issues like loss of huge amount customer's due to covid. This theory will assist in
covering the loss of the British Airways.(Hosseini and Khosravilaghab 2017).
Advantages of the Transformational leadership

Reduces turnover cost- The leaders of British Airways seek to lower staff turnover by making
people more engage in the training and finding a succeed. The leaders of British Airways
engages the employees within the company roles and make them involved in the
organisation(Zainol and Et .al., 2018). The worker matches the culture and behaviour of the
business of the firm can reduce the turnover cost.
creates and manages changes– The leaders in British Airways has to create a new version for
inspiring and build a policy to attract the more and more customer for company. The leaders
of this company design a new offers to attract more customers to move in to a foreign
country easily.
Keep the company open and ethical- Integrity is the core value of leaders, their entire duty is
to be transparent and they are establish for the organisation (Khan and et. al., 2021). The
British Airway’s leaders have to be focused on right things and encourage the workers to
perform well in order to achieve a company objective.
Disadvantages of transformational leadership
 Its a big picture – It gives big image for British Airways. The leaders don’t like to get
bogged down with information, but on the other hand they requires a business planning
to meet their vision.
 Can lead to a employee burnout – here some will feel motivated under this type of
leadership but on other side other will feel stress also. In context to British Airways, these
kind of leaders tends to pressure the employees to work more that can lead to burn out of
employees.
 Can be risky and disruptive- Issue with changes in this leadership style is that it
becomes disruptive if it happens too fast, or if the leaders in British Airways makes
excuses or unusual risk. These types of leaders fail to subjectively assess however this
can lead to produce the negative outcome.
Culture play in the leadership of the global airline industry
Culture plays an important role in any type of organisation. It gives a huge impact on the
business and its productivity. In covid-19 lock down puts a major impact on the business of the
British Airways. The fear of people of getting infected by the people and the policies of the
government reduce the trend of travelling through airlines. This gives big loss not only to the

company but even the Growth rate of the economy also reduced. It will impact on future by
contributing in the economy of the country and gives a great business for the organisation by
following the new trends and guidelines of the government(Lee, 2017).
Would the leader need to have experience in the international airline industry?
The leaders of British Airways should be experienced and well trained because they have
to perform the activities globally. And they must have the quality of controlling the team and
have the ability of managing operations properly. They must have the ability of good decision
making and resolving the issues of company. They must know how to behave in the typical
situations. They should know how to communicate at hierarchy level and how to motivate them
to produce more and work efficiently.
Specific skills required in an entrepreneur:
 Critical thinking skill:- critical thinking skill may be define as the ability to think in a
well organised manner which help in understanding the connection between the ideas and
facts. An entrepreneur with this skill have ability to make decision by evaluating different
sources(Leitch and Volery 2017) . The British Aieways is directly affected by the covid-
19. Travelling from one country to another country is stop during this pandemic. As an
entrepreneur of British Airways, this skill is needed to resolve the problem which come
in the way of achieving the objective.
 Risk Comfortable skill:- risk comfortable is the ability of an entrepreneur to manage the
different types of risk which are face by an entrepreneur. The British Airways deals with
the different types of risk like fluctuations in currency rates, price of the jet fuel and
many more. During this covid 19 the company are not prepared for the different types of
risk which came in this pandemic. As an entrepreneur in the British Airways it have been
seen that people of the country are more focusing on the hygiene and cleanness. To
resolve this risk, proper sanitisation of the airports as well as the aeroplane has been
done. This step help in regaining the customer base.
 Innovation and motivation: Innovation and the motivational skill is also need in an
entrepreneur for the smooth functioning of the different functions of the business. This
skill help in motivating the employees of the organisation so that they work with utmost
productivity. Motivation enhances the skill of the employee so that they perform their
duties with proper utilization of resources(Manuel, 2021) . During this pandemic the most

of the employees who work in the British Airways has been fired and loss their job and
along with this salaries also be cut down, this demotivate the employees most. As an
entrepreneur the British Airways give some additional perks to motivate the employees
so that they work with utmost productivity.
 Flexibility skill: This skill is also needed in an entrepreneurs for survive in the dynamic
market. This skill play a very important role in the smooth functioning of the business
activities(Wanjala, Njoroge and Bulitia, 2017) . Flexibility skills is also called as thinking
skill as this not only help in adopting the different situations but also help in shifting the
different strategies according the need which are required to meet the different types of
challenges. As an entrepreneur in British Airways, this skill is needed in an individual to
adopt the new changes during the covid 19 like proper hygiene, proper sanitization and
many more. This help them achieving a successful position.
How will the entrepreneur’s skills and traits evolve and develop as the Global airline develops its
capacity again?
These entrepreneurship skill act as a key success factor in evolving and developing the
British Airways. These skills in an entrepreneur help them facing all the challenges which came
in the way to achieve success. The critical thinking skill help the leader of British Airways in
developing excellent solutions for the problem like hygiene. The innovation skill help the
understanding the new technology which not on ease the work of the employees but also help the
employee to complete the work in time. For example like sanitisation machine help the employee
in saving the time. And motivation skills help the employee in motivating the employee so that
employees can work hard.(Susilawati, Fitria and Eddy, 2021)

Passionate for work
This is the most important characteristics which help the SME to grow the business in
the global market. The employees and the entrepreneur of the airline industry are more
passionate for their work. Without passion they cannot face the problem which came in the way
during the pandemic time.

CONCLUSION
From the above report it is concluded that international leadership style play a very
important role not only in influencing the behaviour of employees of the organisation but also
help in inspiring them. This report concluded the different leadership style which suited to global
airline impacted by covid 19 along with their advantage. This report also concluded that how
cultural play a very important role in the leadership style of the British Airways before covid 19
and how this impact on the further growth. It is also concluded that specific skills are required in
an entrepreneur during this pandemic and how these skill help them to regrow British Airways
again.
