Role Play of Interview Session for Restaurant Manager Job Position

This role play is based on the vacant job position of Restaurant Manager within the ACA Restaurant Café. The interview questions are based on the job requirement and selection panel and contain the questions which tend to evaluate the applicable selection criteria. The selected applicant is asked about their educational qualifications, past work experience, personality traits, and how they handle stressful situations. The candidate is also asked about their understanding of the job role and responsibilities of a restaurant manager and the skills that make them a good fit for the job.

The current role play of interviews session is based on the vacant job position of the
Restaurant Manager within the ACA Restaurant Café. The interview questions are based on the
job requirement and selection panel and contain the questions which tend to evaluate the
applicable selection criteria. Further, as the Manager, Joe Roux, will select applicants to
interview on the basis of which current interview session is based providing the responses of the
applicants during the interview.

Manager: Introduce yourself in a precise manner?
Selected applicant: My name is abc, it’s my pleasure to get short listed for this job
interview. I was born and raised in the Melbourne city of Australia and currently I completed my
master degree in the management from the University of Melbourne. Further, I also completed
my diploma in management with 80% and I was also a very creative student in my collage and
won many certificates in management and other extra curriculum activities.
Manager: Tell me more about your educational qualification along with the past work
experience that you have in field of management?
Selected applicant: My educational qualification comprises of MBA degree in HR branch
along with BA(honours) and HNC business course. Beside this, I have also comped a diploma in
Management. Along with this, I am also having an experience of working bin restaurant industry

as I had served the post as assistant manager in the Shobosho restaurant for 2 years and also
worked for the branch of Lulu La Delizia restaurant.
Manager: Tell me about your personality, traits and character and if you could change
one thing about your personality, what would it be?
Selected applicant: I am having an extrovert kind of personality which makes me more
sociable, action-oriented, enthusiastic, friendly, and out-going. This trait and personality also
supports and help me to effectively relate well to others, and are often well-liked in their teams
and offices. Apart from this, I am also quick and comfortable in making easy friendships which
supports effective and positive relationship both with the employees and customers and this
outgoing nature leads to effective group-work. Beside this, effective time management and
communication are also my key strength and characteristics that makes me suitable for the job
role of manager. Beside this, I also hold effective motivation and influencing power to
effectively direct and guide employees towards improved and better performance level. Thus,
overall I am satisfied with my personality and characteristics that seemed suitable for the job role
of restaurant manager. But still I could change one thing about your personality get frustrated at
people who don't work very hard and also have very high expectation. Thus, to become a good
manager and ensure effective meeting of my job role I would like to first understand the
capability and strength of an employees and after that I will have my expectation as per the best
potential and capability of an individual and would also like to be politer and Friendly with my
team and employees to ensure higher motivation and positive influence on them.
Manager: Tell me about a stressful scenario from your past working experience and
how you had handled it?
Selected applicant: As I remember while working in the Shobosho restaurant a chaos and
conflict has been there between the waiter and cook regarding the late delivery of an order. At
that time, they are fighting and blaming each other for that thing. Thus, at that time being a
manager I communicated with both of them one by one and try to find out the root cause of the
issues instead of directly blaming anyone of them. After that, I used my communication and
management skill to resolve that chaos and ensured a more effective and convenient
communication platform between the waiter and the cook to ensure the timely deliver of the
order without having any chaos and confusion.

Manager: What understanding do you having about the job role and responsibility of a
restaurant manager?
Selected participant: As per my opinion, the restaurant manager is having the job role of
effectively managing of all the staff along with setting and leading out improved collaboration
and coordination between all the set activities and departments of the restaurant. Beside this,
maintaining proper discipline and shift timing at restaurant and ensuring timely salaries and
remuneration for employees is also the main responsibility of the restaurant manager. Along with
meeting and resolving all chaos at workplace and focusing on the regular training and
development session for employees is also need to be done by restaurant manager. Beside this,
regularly motivating and guiding employees towards better performance is also needs to be done
by the restaurant manager. Further, meeting all set legal laws and provisions related with
workplace management such as equality act 2010 and health and safety act is also the key
responsibility of restaurant manager.
Manager: As per your opinion what are the main skills that makes you a good manager
and better than other candidates for the current job role?
Selected participant: As per my opinion, I think that my communication skill is my greatest
strength that makes me better candidate and most suitable for the job role of restaurant manager.
Communication skill makes me able to manage and effectively coordinate all workforce and
employees along with setting positive relationship with both employees as well as customers.
Beside this, my communication skill also supports improved motivation and better guidance for
employees which ensures higher performance level.
Based on above discussion, the candidate seemed suitable for this job role can be appointed
as restaurant manager.
