MAIN BODY
Motivation and factors that influence employee motivation
Motivation among employees can be defined as the level of energy, enthusiasm,
commitment as well as the amount of creativity. Employees are considered to be one of the most
important assets for a company and it is important for the management of the firm to ensure that
the employees are highly motivated. Employee motivation is primarily all about how engaged
and committed the employees are towards their respective jobs. Motivation is of two types,
intrinsic as well as extrinsic motivation. The motivation level of employees within a company
can affect its overall success directly. The management of an organization should understand that
no two employees are same and that their motivation level differs (Employee motivation:
Definition, types, importance, and ways to improve it, 2021). Therefore, developing a proper
understanding of if the employees working for the company are motivated or not. Intrinsic
motivation means that the employee is motivated from within and that they desire to perform
well at the workplace and achieve targets. Employees who are motivated from within, are
curious and show desire to achieve success. On the other hand, extrinsic motivation is when an
employee’s motivation level is stimulated by the various external factors such as benefits and
rewards. There can be employees within an organization, who are not internally motivated and
thus, require external factors for motivation.
