Introduction
Teamwork and effective communication are critical skills that play an important role
in executing team project. It is important to inculcate the interpersonal and team building
skills in the activities so that the effectiveness of the leader as well as the employees can be
improved (Aga, Noorderhaven, and Vallejo, 2016).
Recently, I got an opportunity to work in a team project where my team has not been
performing very well when I was positioned as a leader. Being a good leader, I never imposed
my decisions forcefully by I have involved an effective listening process too. However, it has
become a situation of assertive communication where it was quiet difficult in conversing with
the group members because I was not able to understand the array of linguistic and non-verbal
features. In order to resolve, we have decided to use a written communication method so that
it can become easy to begin with the formation of result-oriented group. Written
communication will help to exchange the information effectively with minimum
communication barriers by reviewing the team dynamics, and relating the information to
coordinate so as to achieve the task behavior (Aga et al., 2016).
As a leader, I engage in the discussions with my team which helped me in resolving
their issues and respond earlier to several messages. The team has to work more effectively as
it has not been achieving very well and achieving below average 40 percent in a team whereas
as per the own interest, I perceived that personal goals are being achieved of around 57
percent. It is seen that team has grudges and no credibility where I will have to remain less
proactive, improve the conflict management, and use more verbal cues (Aga et al., 2016). As
a communication method, the project team uses non-verbal communication it is a method of
receiving the wordless messages. I have used non-verbal messages in the team which are
significant as these convey own feelings. In order to improve the team building, there are
certain steps such as to communicate clear objectives and expectations for the employees,
