INTRODUCTION
Human resource management (HRM) is the process which is designed to enhance
employee performance and motivation to the significant level. In the business organization,
HR manager is responsible to frame highly competent strategic policy framework that
contributes in employee benefits. Hence, HR department plays a vital role in building and
maintaining highly talented workforce. The present report is based on Palermo Safe storage
whose missionstatement entails that employees are the main assets of an organization. In the
recent times, personnel are not happy with the current policies of firm. Hence, central focus
of the report is tohighlight the importance of HR planning and functions. Besides this, it will
also shed light on the extent to which HR manager can introduce and manage change.
Further, it also depicts the extent to which trainingactivity helps in raising employee’s
efficiency and thereby makes contribution in the organizational success.
TASK 1
Explaining HRM and HR function along with its significance
HRM may be served as a continuous process which is undertaken by the firm to
manage peoplemore effectively and efficiently. By following such process Palermo Safe
storage can achieve aims and objectives.Such business unit also places emphasis on the
aspect that growth and success is highly dependent on workforce. Moreover, without having
skilled workforce it is not possible for to the firm to build or sustain competitive edge over
others (Human Resource Management, 2017). HR manager performs several functions to
develop and manage highly skilled workforce are as follows:
Recruitment and selection: In the context of Palermo Safe Storage, HR manager
makes effort to assign or recruitsuitable personnel on the right job. For this purpose,
manager primarily prepares job description and specification by making evaluation of
the vacant position. Thereafter, by matching the skills of personnel in against to the
prepared documents HRmanagerof the firm recruits and select suitable personnel.
Training and development: HR personnel identify the training need of employees by
making continuous evaluation of the performance level. Hence, according to the
requirement HR manager of Palermo Safe storage conducts training by keeping in
mind their preferred mode. Along with this, HR manager also encourages personnel to

present the areas in which they are facing difficulties (Oke, 2016). By assessing such
aspect manager plans training session and thereby addresses the weakness of
personnel.In this way, HR manager develops the team of highly talented people and
thereby helps in achieving success.
Performance appraisal:In order to prepare suitable salary structure, bonus and
incentive plan HR authority makes evaluation of employee performance. In this,
manager makes comparison of actual performance with the standards and thereby
identifies the level of growth as well as potential (Brewster, Mayrhofer and Morley,
2016).Further, such personnel make aware to the higher management about the
personnel who deserves for both monetary and non-monetary rewards.
Resolving conflicts: In the business unit, HR is assigned with the responsibility to
build effectual employee-labor relationship. Conflicts are usual among the personnel
when they work in a team. In this situation, HR manager presents highly suitable
solution that develops satisfaction among both the parties. In this, HR strengthens the
relationship that takes place between management and employees. Moreover, HR
communicates all the details to personnel in a positive manner and motivates them to
make their best efforts.
In addition to this, HR makes evaluation of health and safety policies with the motive
to develop suitable framework.Further, HR conducts the programs for employee
welfare and benefits such as picnic, reward and recognition etc. HR of Palermo Safe
storage also encourages personnel to come up with unique ideas and suggestions. By
evaluating the mindset of personnel HR provides higher management team with
effectual framework for decision making (Sparrow, Brewster and Chung, 2016).
Besides this, HR manager organizes seminars, workshops to enhance the motivational
aspect of personnel. Manager also conducts management games to boost employee
motivation. Hence, several programs are organized by HR manager to enhance
employee morale and motivation.
