KROGER’S SWOT ANALYSIS 2 Kroger’s SWOT Analysis Kroger is one of the largest supermarket chains in the world. Bernard Kroger and B.A. Branagan founded the company in 1883 (Lewis, n.d.). They are also a large manufacturer, producing 30 billion of their private label products. Kroger has many strengths that include having a sturdy market position in the American Market, growing its market share, high-quality innovation and technology, digitalizing their stores, and having private label products. The organization also has several weaknesses such as huge loan debt, minimal global presence, a lapse of vendor quality control, a unionized workforce, and legal lawsuits. The opportunities the organization has to improve its competitive advantage include expanding their business globally, launch of Kroger Persona Finance (KPF), In-store Health Clinic Program, and building Internet of Retail business. The company faces many threats such as the growth of competition, new businesses in online retail, increasing labor costs, high debt burden, and price competition in the market (“Kroger SWOT,” 2019). Kroger has maintained a sturdy position in the American market since they have massive production of products as compared to its competitors, Wal-Mart and Costco. It offers a wide variety of products as compared to its competitors. Secondly, Kroger has managed to grow its market share in subsequent years. The organization has acquired at least three market share positions in its primary markets. Thirdly, to keep up with its two primary competitors, Wal-Mart and Costco, Kroger has strived to remain at the pinnacle of a tight market with its innovations and advanced technology that enable them to continue satisfying their customers. Identifying weaknesses, opportunities, and threats helpthe organization to be fully aware of the situation that they have to address to enable decision-making and strategic planning.
