INTRODUCTIONLeadership is an important process through which a person can guide, direct and influencethe behaviour through which helps in accomplishment of organisational goals in the givencontext Leadership is the ability of a manager to allow the subordinates to work with confidenceand zeal and motivates them. Corus Group was formed through the merger of Koninklijke Hoogovens and BritishSteel plc in 1999. It was acquired by Tata of India in 2007, and renamed Tata Steel Europe inSeptember 2010. Corus operated steel making plants (blast furnaces) in Port Talbot, WalesScunthorpe and Teesside, England; and Ijmuiden. Above study will give an idea of leadership and management based on Corus group. It willstudy upon the role of leader and function of managers with their comparisons, how leadershipis applied in different situations. describing the of role leaders and that of managers in operationand function of the organisation & lastly relationship between leadership and management inBusiness environment.LO 1P 1 Comparison between characteristics of leader and manager.Manager :- An individual who is in-charge of the group which controls the carried out tasks or apart of an organization. Manager is an individual who is responsible for all the tasks occurringunder them and responsibility of the result which must be maintained under a manager. Leader :- A Leader is a person who encourages team to achieve a common goal. Purpose isdefined by a leader who encourages workers in achieving a common goal and works forupbringing of firm by various pros and corns to work for betterment of the firm. There is a vast difference between being a manager and being a leader. Leadership is atype of skill and the person who has this ability is known as a leader whereas, Management is adiscipline, and the practitioner of this discipline is known as the Manager.Leader and manager have different significant roles in an organization, a leader is the one whoinspires, encourages, influence and motivate his team to work efficiently and effectively to attainorganizational objectives. Whereas, a manager is an important link between the organization andits stakeholders, which are employees, shareholders, customers, suppliers, government, societyetc. Manager is the one who performs basic managerial functions.
A leader is an individual who supports and guides managers and workers to achieve the definedtasks and to increase the capability of the workers by providing motivation and support. Abidingdifferent laws and support penetration which can give a safer working platform to the workers.Amanager is an individual who defines the work to the workers and supports them with theworking strategy and guides with the path to be followed(Barkema and et.al., 2015).BasisLeader ManagerExplicationA leader is an individual onewho lead,influences,encourages and motivates hisassistants to achieve aspecifiedorganisational goal.A manager is the person in the organisationwho manages all the management system ortake managerial decision of the organisationand he is responsible for all the managerialfunctions such asplanning,organising,staffing,directing andcontrolling. PerspectiveLeaders set eyes and strives toturn there eyes into fact. Leadersalways think beyond what hisor her assistants are capable ofand make each and everyassistants to a part of his/hereyes.Managers set goals and directs subordinatestowards these goals. AttributeLeaders always think for a longperiod of a time and a look atthe large images and for settingup the direction towards thefinal goal he always keep futurein the mind.Managers usually think short term and areshort sightedStyleLeaders are willing to beconscious and work sincerely tobuild their uncommon and grandManagers miniature the skills and attitudelearnt from others and utilise their leadershipstyle alternately defining it themselves.
