INTRODUCTION
Leadership concept is an important function that helps to improve the efficiency of the
team members as well as to realize vision, mission and objectives of the firm. J &J Furnishings
Ltd. was founded in year 1965 by Jack and Jessica in Sydney, Australia. It deals in building and
selling home furniture Ramazani & Jergeas (2015).. The Report will outline the leadership style
of the leader that helps to manage project team during implementation of change in the context
of organization. Further, it will describe tools and procedure that can be used by project manager
to influence group members, various type of powers as described in Raven and steps that project
manager should take for alleviating the challenges that may be faced by project team etc.
MAIN BODY
Leadership style for managing project team.
Leadership style-
It refers to the approach adopted by the leader of the firm for providing direction to team
members, to implement the proposed plans and to influence the employees for performing better.
The concept of leadership plays an important role in both the type of environment that is internal
and external environment. Internal environment consist of attitude, culture, behaviour of
individuals etc. Environment outside the business consist of competitors, customers etc.
Nowadays, performing the business in global environment has become more complex.
Therefore, it is the responsibility of top management and leader of the firm to lead the employees
that plays a major role in achieving goals of the firm Zigarmi, Roberts & Alan Randolph (2015).
There are various types of leadership styles that Project Manager of an organization can
adopt such as democratic, autocratic, laissez-faire etc. But other than these, one of the best
leadership style that will help Project Manager of J &J Furnishings during the project of product
line expansion and upgrading billing software is describes below-
Transformational leadership style:
It refers to a leadership style in which leader the firm focuses on achieving the goals of
learning and fulfilling the needs of team members. This leadership style also helps to modify the
quality of products or services by focusing on training and personal development of the
employees. Project Manager of J &J Furnishings should adopt transformational leadership style
over other types of leadership styles such as autocratic, democratic etc. that will help to move the
firm forward with the help of team members.

It will help to achieve the goals of sustainability that are set up the company. Further,
transformational leadership style will support project manager of the company to engage with
other stakeholders such as suppliers, customers that are engaged in supply chain of the products
of J&J Furnishings. This style of leadership will hep to achieve the vision and goal of the
company that is to influence stakeholders, partners that goals of the firm also includes long term
sustainability that will help to promote safety of environment and employees etc.
Further, transformational leadership as compared to other types of leadership styles like
autocratic etc. helps to promote the culture of innovation in the company. Therefore, this will y
help the Manager of J &J Furnishings to influence project team of 40 people for effective
transition to advance technology for upgrading IT software for billing, ordering and shipping etc.
This will help firm to improve supply chain, minimize lost of sales etc.
Tools and methods to influence project team.
There are various types of tools and techniques that Manager of project should use to
influence the project team that will help to achieve the goals of the company. It will help to
achieve long term sustainability, to upgrade IT software of the company. These are as follows -
Feedback :
One of the best method to influence project team members is by collecting feedback. This
will help to bring together 40 individuals that are involved in project team of J &J Furnishings.
Project Manager should ask the employees to provide feedback by analysing their views,
thinking and then, Manager should select best alternative for achieving the goals of the company
Raven (2017).
In the given case study, project team has examined that during implementation of IT
system that are three potential risk such as loss of business, loss of credibility and loss of sales.
Therefore, project manager of J &J Furnishings should receive feedbacks from team members
that will help to minimize the risk as well as also help to reduce the disruption in the process by
workers.
Collaborative approach :
Another method that project manager of the firm may adopt for influencing project team
is collaborative approach. Project Manager of J &J Furnishings should arrange meeting with 40
group members. This will help the Manager to influence the employees that are working in

different departments to provide information that will help to improve sustainability, sales and
process of billing and shipping.
Metrics to monitor the performance of team members :
Project Manager of the firm should adopt various metrics to influence project team
members to improve their performance so that, objectives of the company can be achieved. They
can use metrics such as team performance, sales revenue, time schedule of accomplishing the
task etc. On the basis of actual team performance, project manager will be able to inspire the
workers to improve their performance.
There are various types of tools that can be used by project manager for influencing team
members to improve their performance. Such as-

types of power affect the success and leadership of individuals Kerzner (2017).
Six forms of power includes coercive, referent, legitimate, reward, expert and
informational power etc. Project Manager of J& J Furnishings should adopt the following forms
of power. Such as -
To influence the team members:
To influence the team members that are working in project team, Project Manager will
use Expert power to influence the employees. Expert power is based on the knowledge,
information or expertise of the Manager. The knowledge and expertise of project manager of J
&J Furnishings regarding benefits of updating IT software, efficient delivery of products etc. will

help to influence the personnels to work effectively during the process of transition to new
billing software.
To motivate team members :
Project Manager of J &J Furnishings will use Reward Power to propel all the members
of project team for working in collaboration with each other. Reward power is the ability of
Manager to give rewards to the workers. Project Manager of the company should give rewards to
team members like recognition, incentives etc. This will help to motivate project team to work
collaboratively to focus on corporate social responsibility that will help to improve public
relations and deliver benefits to shareholders.
Impact the project success :
For the successful completion of the project, project manager of the company will use
Legitimate Power. This type of power will come from the position of project manager in J &J
Furnishings. Manager will assign task to every member, and they have to accomplish it. By
assigning the task during transition process, members will focus on the success of the project
Iqbal ,Anwar & Haider (2015).
Steps for eliminating challenges.
Project Manager will take various steps to remove the challenges that team members will
face during the implementation of the project. This will help to protect working environment
from any type of negative impact. Such as -
Firstly, before initiating the project, project manager of J & J Furnishings should ensure
that team members are having required skills that are needed for effective implementation of
advance IT software and to innovate a new line of furniture.
More control :
Large projects involves huge risk and complexities either because of large scale of team
or because there are more stakeholders. Therefore, Project Manager of the firm should use good
project management method so that, greater level of control can be exercised. This will help to
control challenges before they become so large that it will harm work environment or final
product of J &J Furnishings Holten & Brenner (2015).

will be no confusion regarding the task to be performed by every worker. Therefore, Project
