Can leadership skills be learnt?
Leadership is a quality of influencing a person or a group of people to achieve desired
goals. This is generally done by the top management to motivate the employees of the company.
An effective leader generally possesses these qualities – decision making, good public speaking
skills and a creative mind-set. Leadership skills can be learned, there are just few aspects that a
person needs to works upon. It is a skill that a people acquires over a time and not something that
a person is born with (Opolot and et. al., 2018). The start of learning leadership starts at home,
parents are a great teacher and probably the first teacher so the things learnt from them stays
inside a person.
Further, they learn at school from teachers and classmates and so the cycle goes on and
they keep acquiring skills from the people the meet on a daily basis. Not every Business school
or college makes an excellent leader, it is the interactions and experience that brings confidence
and make a person capable of managing and motivating people. Everyone has that thing inside
them, they just need to work on it. In this report, few aspects are discussed to learn leadership
skills:
 Good public speaking skills: This is the most important skill; it makes a person an
excellent leader. Speaking skills is a thing that a person can learn over the time, it is not
something that a person is born with. Public speaking requires confidence, a good
knowledge of the language and the skills to express themselves.
 Decision Making: Decision making is something that is situational and comes more with
the experience. Taking the right decision at a right place and at a right time is something
that makes a good leader (Tampi, 2019). It is a subjective approach, and one has to lead a
team and make decisions in order to learn this skill.
 Motivating people: Motivating is the essence of leadership, it leads to the completion of
goals on time. It is an intangible thing that can only be felt by the person who is getting
motivated. Learning to motivate people is a thing that a person learns over the time by
talking and understanding the emotions of people (Barton and et. al., 2021). Motivating
can also be materialistic like rewarding the employees for achieving something.
 Setting attainable goals: The goals decided by leader should be realistic and attainable,
so that the employees can complete them on time, which will motivate the employee to
