Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Research Aim and Rationale
Research aim
To determine the duties played by line manager and leaders for talent evolution and
retention within a workplace. A study on ASOS Plc.
Rationale
The rationale for executing the current investigation is to identify duties and responsibilities
executed by line managers and leaders in retaining and developing employees. The current
research is significant for ASOS Plc so that to analyse the importance of their line managers and
leaders. The investigation is linked with dual orientation of the researcher such as personal
perspective and professional perspective (Sparrow, Hird and Cooper, 2015). In the status of
personal perspective the current research will evolve significant skills within researcher such as
problem solving skills, communication skills and many others. Whereas in terms of vocational
position the research would provide help to the researcher in order to manage future researches
in more suitable manner.
1.2 Research Questions
What are the different roles executed by leaders and line managers in the
workplace of ASOS Plc ?
What are the duties and responsibilities played by leaders and managers of
ASOS Plc in terms of employee evolution and retention?
What is the importance of developing and retaining employees within ASOS

1.3 Research Objectives
To examine the different duties executed by leaders and line managers in the
workplace of ASOS Plc
To investigate the roles and responsibilities played by leaders and managers of
ASOS Plc in terms of employee development and retention
To discern the importance of developing and retaining employees within
ASOS Plc
1.4 Significance of the Research.
Present research is significant as it is conducted on the duties played by reline managers and
leaders for talent evaluation and retention within a workspace. In this in depth analysis has been
conducted to identify the rules that has been played by these executives (Al Ariss, Cascio and
Paauwe, 2014). The present research will significantly benefit companies in the same sector to
understand the importance of employee development and retention. Present research is also
significant as it helps researcher to enhance the current level of knowledge and utilise the present
research experience to conduct future research in more effective manner.
Cost:
Overall amount that project manager undertakes to fulfil project objectives. In terms with
present research, researcher set appropriate budget to cover all activities cost in order to conduct
process without facing the issue of over expense.
Access:
The researcher holds the access of research.
Chapter Two: Literature Review
2.2 Introduction of Literature Review
Literature review is defined as an overview of previously published work on a specific topic.
This is inclusive of summary overview and evaluation of a current state of knowledge
(Stoyanova and Iliev, 2017). In context to present research the duties played by line manager and
leaders for talent evolution and retention within a workplace is being analysed according to the
viewpoint of various authors, journal articles and books.

2.2 Main Body
Different duties executed by leaders and line managers in the workplace of ASOS Plc
According to the viewpoint of Ansar and Baloch, 2018 line managers and leaders in organization
plays crucial role in aligning roles and responsibilities of employees according to the
organization aims and objectives. In context with ASOS there are different duties executed by
the company line managers and leaders such as recruitment and selection, providing guidance
and motivation to employees, encouraging communication, resolving conflicts and executing
feedback system (Pandita and Ray, 2018). With the help of different type of roles and
responsibilities line managers and leaders within the companies are encouraging employees to
accomplish organization objectives in a well defined and effective manner.
Roles and responsibilities played by leaders and managers of ASOS Plc in terms of employee
development and retention
According to the viewpoint of Carpenter and de Charon, 2014 employee development and
retention is an important aspect for an organization as it helps company to implement appropriate
strategies as to retain talented and skilled workers for longer period of time. In order to stay
competitive in the business environment line managers and leaders of ASOS is taking use of
different roles and responsibilities such as encouraging open communication, providing effective
mentorship and guidance, controlling business activities, measuring employees performance
against the set goals, offering continuous guidance and motivation to workers and evaluating
business objectives and providing support to employees. With the help of these roles and
responsibilities line managers and leaders of ASOS are retaining employees and providing
development to them.
Importance of developing and retaining employees within ASOS Plc
According to the viewpoint of Isson and Harriott, 2016 the modern business environment is
highly competitive in which development and retention of employees plays crucial role as well
responsibilities. With the help of this company can executive roles and responsibilities with a
talented workforce. It has been analysed that developing and retaining employees plays
important and crucial role as it allow organization to enhance its competitiveness in industry
while having strong relationship with consumers (Narayanan, Rajithakumar and Menon, 2019).

With the help of retaining talented and experienced employees ASOS can reduce the overall
budget in providing training to new employees and recruitment in selection method. This will
also play important role in company in terms of enhancing its growth.
2.3 Conclusion of Literature Review
According to the literature review analysis it has been concluded that retention and development
of employees is crucial for ASOS as it allows them to overcome the rivalry in the workspace
market and also allow them to conducted roles and responsibilities with talented and experienced
workforce (Whysall, Owtram and Brittain, 2019).
Chapter Three: Methodology
3.1 Research Approach
In order to conduct the present research investigator is undertaking use of deductive
research approach. It has been underlined that research approaches a crucial element of research
methodology in which investigator have ability to select will accumulate data and information to
conduct research in systematic manner with the assistance of numerical data analysis.
3.2 Research Strategy
Research strategy plays essential role as this is a procedure and plan which allow researcher to
have a guidance. To fulfll research in effective work research strategy allow investigator to have
a framework to accumulate data and information (Meyer and Xin, 2018). In order to fulfil
present research researcher is taking advantage of survey research strategy acquire data and
further analyse them with the help of quantitative analysis method. The main reason behind this
is to select a set of respondents by taking use of questionnaire and conduct research in
appropriate way.
3.3 Research Methodology
Research methodology is an important component of research investigator can select
different techniques and tools according to the research topic. In this researcher can acquire data
and information as per the selected method which will help in executing research and fulfilling
objectives in appropriate way.

3.4 Research Tools
Research tool is a crucial concept which allow investigator to take advantage of various
techniques and tools to accomplish research objectives. In order to fulfil present research
investigator is under taking advantage of quantitative data collection method in which both
primary and secondary method has been selected (Morgan, 2014). In order to conduct research
with the help of primary method researcher is taking hues of first hand data and information
directly from respondents and will analyse them with the help of pie chart and bar graph. In order
to conduct research in secondary method investigator will take advantage of books, journal
articles, previously conducted research and will further analyse them by taking use of literature
review.
3.5 Sampling
Sampling is a crucial concept of research methodology in which to conduct present
research researcher is taking advantage of random sampling method. Investigator is further
considering 30 respondents employees of company and will analyse their viewpoint. The
primary reason behind selecting them as respondent is that they have efficient knowledge about
the selected topic.
3.5.1 Identifying Population and Research Site
The population of respondents will be the employees of company through which
researcher will conduct research in effective manner.
3.5.2 Sampling Strategy
Investigator have selected use of random sampling strategy to acquire appropriate data
and information.
