Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Research Aim and Rationale
Research Aim
To determine the role of line managers in talent management and retention within
organisation. “A study of Tesco”
Research Rational
The reason behind for the selection of this research topic in order to collect and
analyse the information regarding talent management as well as retention. Talent
management and retention described how employers recruit as well as develop their
productive workforce in order to stay in the organisation for long-term. Talent management
and retention plays an important role within an organisation as it helps in making employees
feel engaged, skilled as well as motivated in order to perform their task (Maqueira, Bruque
and Uhrin, 2018). The researcher will also want to identify the role of line managers in order
to manage and retain talented employees in the organisation. As the line manager are
responsible in making talented employees motivated, productive and engaged in order to
work in the organisation for achieving organisational goals. This research basically identify
and collect the relevant information that help company in order to manage and retain talented
employees in the organisation for long-term.
1.2 Research Questions
To develop basic understanding regarding the concept of talent management.
To determine the role of line managers in talent management and retention within
Tesco.
To discuss various challenges during implementation of talent management strategies.

1.4 Significance of the Research
The following research is important for the researcher as it helps in developing
research skills in order to conduct their task in better manner. The skills that the researcher
develop while conducting this research are searching for information, attention to detail,
notes taking, time management, problem solving as well as communication. With the help of
these, researcher can effectively conduct research in future for any topic (Latukha and
Veselova, 2019). The research on the topic of role of line managers in talent management
and retention within organisation is also help company in order to understand how important
to manage and retain talented employees in order to improve their business growth in the
market. Talent management and retention help company to makes their employees skilled,
motivated as well as engaged so, they work in the direction of their organisational goals in
order to increase client satisfaction as well as business performance. This will also help in
keeping the talented employees within the organisation as long as possible in order to
increased the productivity as well as successfully completion of strategic goals. The research
will also help company in order to save an organisation from the loss of productivity. It also
encouraged every organisation to focus on retaining talented employees instead of hiring new
one as it cost more from retaining. This will help in saving the money and cost of the
company that incurred in recruiting and training new employees in the organisation. The
talented employees are skilled and motivated in order to perform their task in better manner.

Chapter Two: Literature Review
2.1 Introduction of Literature Review
A literature review is defined as the survey of a comprehensive summary of a research
topic which is for books, articles, and sources of a particular area of topic of research. It is
refers to the critical evaluation of the study materials (Al-Thaqeb, and Algharabali, 2019). It
is an overview of the previous works on a particular topic. In other words, literature review is
a specific summary from the previous topic. Where the topics includes article research,
research, books and other sources. The aim of the literature review is duplication of the
previous research. It is like a survey which is of scholarly, journal and books. It is done to
clarify the research in a theoretical concept on the specific topics. Literature review is an
important term which helps in duplication of the past research (Burke, 2019).
2.2 Main Body (with Headings and Sub-headings)
Explain meaning of talent management.
According to the point of view of Alpern (2018), Talent management is the strategic
process that helps to get the right talent within the organization. It is the term which is used
by the companies in recruiting the employees and select the talented employee for the vacant
positions. Talent management helps to improve the overall performance of the business by
making the employees more productive with the help of talent management. It other words,
talent management is refers to the process which helps to motivate and develop the high
performance of the employee which helps to increase the performance of the organization.
Talent management helps to attract and retain the employees and develop their skills for the
organisation. Talent management is an important term for every organization that helps to
improve the productivity of the organizations.
In opinion to view of Tran (2022), talent management play a vital role in every
company or organization which helps to improve the productivity of the employees and
develop their skills for the future growth. Talent management is the process of attraction,
retaining and selecting the candidate for the vacant position and develop their skills for future
growth of the company. Talent management helps to develop the employees performance by
motivating them which helps to improve the performance of the employees with
effectiveness. It is the term of management which provides many strategies to improve the
performance of the employees. Talent employees helps to improve the overall productivity of
